Must have been awkward when you couldn’t tip the horse and buggy driver.

Hell, most FO’s at Envoy are making way north’s of 60k their first year and many, still live at home. I have a wife, kids, mortgage, car payments, student loan payments etc. I’m not being cheap, I am saving my money. That’s not to say I don’t or won’t buy one here and there but for someone to expect it isn’t being fair to the reality some of us live in.

I get the idea of rolling with it. But there were a few times where I d fly with one of these "must buy the drinks" captains again and they d have something else to do and I couldn t help but think they were saying to themselves "there's that FO that runs up an expensive bar tab... I better find something else to do!"

How about this: if you re a captain that thinks you should buy the drinks, say so before anyone orders. It gives everyone a chance to sort out expectations.

When I tipped them, they were willing to put a hot iron, fresh from the fireplace, in and amongst the blankets at my feet. Made so they didn’t freeze in that time from the hotel to the airfield.

Millennials are really picky about their beer. They just can't roll with it and have a good time with what everybody else is drinking. They have to make a statement with everything they do. "Hey look at me and this cool beer I am drinking that I can barely finish, sooo Instaworthy!

I'd order what I wanted to drink, beer-wise. Up to them if they wanted to pay for it. Not drinking coors light just to be nice to someone who wants to buy beer, but at my regional we had more of a western craft beer culture (back when craft beer was getting started)... most folks liked to try to local stuff.

Going through all the time and expense of flight training and feeling like you lucked out making 60K is unacceptable. Which is what many are saying, not to the OP. Just because it used to be 20K and is now better does not make it OK.

I don’t drink to get drunk anymore, so I order beers to be refreshing or for the flavor. Sometimes they’re weird, but I like to try new things. I’ve never asked someone to pay for my drinks. Except for the one time I paid my buddy’s cover at 10 cent beer night. “Dude I owe you 50 beers!” LoL
