It takes a special, stingy type of cheap b@stard to not use <4% of their per diem out of their often six-figure salary to not tip $1 to a driver for handing your bag. No more than $400 a year.
Get some perspective. Tipping culture may suck, but it does exist.

I mean the average shuttle driver earns an average of $14.06 an hour. Not exactly minimum wage. I think we have moved beyond the days of everyone making below minimum wage and needing to be tipped. I have a family member that is a server and even she gets paid 10.50 an hour in addition to her tips. I am not saying this is great money but we are talking about jobs that have zero requirements to start working at them.
hopefully we move past this.

If I get exceptional service from the driver, I've got no problem throwing a buck or two their way. But the late driver, or the one who acts like it's an inconvenience to be there, or drives the van like they stole it, etc? Nah...

No, they don't 'have to" handle my bag. They force it out of my hands because they want a tip. They "have to" drive the van to and from the hotel. If they are for some reason required to handle my bag, then that's their job, and what they get paid for.

"They have to handle my bag" in order to get a tip from me.
Poor service nullifies the tip.

Now that I fly to Latin America (various countries) I don’t carry local cash. I tip in greenbacks. Again, the drivers always seem happy.
One place you never want to tip is Japan. It’s an insult. I hope that one day the rest of the world is the same, but in the meantime I’m not going to fight the good fight to try to change the world, unlike some on this thread.
