When a person is being paid for doing the job they are expected to do for the rate they are expected to do it for tips are generous for doing an exceptional job. They aren’t doing anything outside of their job description and don’t stop getting paid or are paid less simply for picking us up. Just because a service worker does their job to the degree they are expected to do it that doesn’t deserve anything more than their standard pay. Tips have simply become too expected in the service world that people don’t appreciate them they expect them to supplement their income.

Do we receive tips for on time departures and arrivals? Or for smooth flights? We provide a service, should we not be tipped for good service? No? Why not? Just because it’s considered professional? Just because we’re paid more? We are compensated for the level of work and education required to provide that service. No tips. I don’t expect tips I expect to be paid justly and it’s not on customers to supplement that income.

Hear hear! We need a like button.

That being said, if the company wants to add an option for passengers to tip "15%, 20%, or 25%", while I disagree with the sentiment, I wouldn't turn down the money.

If I remember to bring cash I usually tip about what a Coke costs from the hotel soda machine. One time in Vancouver I tipped the bus driver $20 after he waited 20 minutes for a crew member who forgot to set her alarm. It's not something I think about at all unless I see this thread pop up.

Tipping is an outdated social norm that needs to be elimated. Rich corporations should be paying thier employees well to begin with.

Dang I thought I was the only one that used the Coke index.

Please send updates when you’ve changed society.

I used to work a job that paid $4.85/hr and I made $90k a year because of tips. No corporation was ever going to pay us anywhere near $17.00 for working a bar…. I’m happy to have the system we have.

Quite so. That's more something that adults and professionals do.

You're far too busy failing checkrides and getting fired to tip.

You'd need a job, first.
