Now that most regionals are paying $90+ for first year FO’s, it’s time the van drivers get $3 per bag. They are up late and early just like us, but without the pay. Long gone are the days of no tip, or 1 or 2 bucks. Don’t be cheap guys.

I tip when I receive good service. Tipping should not be an automatic social norm. Too many times have I called for a pickup only for the van to come an hour later. Or I’ll call and they tell me it only comes every 30 mins. In most cases they aren’t going out of their way to go above a beyond to help us or drive us. They are at the hotel and on the clock at whatever hour we need to go. Now I do tip when I feel it’s appropriate, nice driver, quick to pick up or drop off etc.

Cant blame the driver if the hotel sets the schedule top/bottom of the hour. I’m sorry, but if the flight attendants are still tipping a dollar and you’re being crusty because you don’t like the “social norms” that’s embarrassing.

Social norms are to tip people that make less than minimum wage. You know, like restaurant servers making $2.75/hr. That’s where social norm stops. Anything else is just being polite.

When a person is being paid for doing the job they are expected to do for the rate they are expected to do it for tips are generous for doing an exceptional job. They aren’t doing anything outside of their job description and don’t stop getting paid or are paid less simply for picking us up. Just because a service worker does their job to the degree they are expected to do it that doesn’t deserve anything more than their standard pay. Tips have simply become too expected in the service world that people don’t appreciate them they expect them to supplement their income.

Do we receive tips for on time departures and arrivals? Or for smooth flights? We provide a service, should we not be tipped for good service? No? Why not? Just because it’s considered professional? Just because we’re paid more? We are compensated for the level of work and education required to provide that service. No tips. I don’t expect tips I expect to be paid justly and it’s not on customers to supplement that income.

Hear hear! We need a like button.

That being said, if the company wants to add an option for passengers to tip "15%, 20%, or 25%", while I disagree with the sentiment, I wouldn't turn down the money.

If I remember to bring cash I usually tip about what a Coke costs from the hotel soda machine. One time in Vancouver I tipped the bus driver $20 after he waited 20 minutes for a crew member who forgot to set her alarm. It's not something I think about at all unless I see this thread pop up.

Tipping is an outdated social norm that needs to be elimated. Rich corporations should be paying thier employees well to begin with.
