Mesaba new hires

Wow they REALLY revised this one. I'm not getting all the new hire saab fo's though. They wanted to trim the fat on the saabs and now they're building them back up while quite a few reserves aren't getting hardly any flying at all? Am I missing something here?

I predict more 900s in some form wether its the Freedom 900s or NWA options. This is too large of a scale for increased utilization on our current fleet. A buddy of mine does interviews and I guess they are scrambling XJ pilots to do last minute interviews this week and next, which means the pool must have gotten drained for the 35 vacancies.
The saab backfill is easy to explain. All the new 900 Captains have to come from somewhere and it is likely from the saab CA ranks. When that happens, the saab CA positions have to be backfilled and that likely comes from both saab and jet FOs and when that happens those positions need to be backfilled as well.
Something is going on and I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I hear what you're saying and the only thing I can come up with is they actually care more about pilot experience and safety than money... which never happens in the red tail family so no, I guess I can't help.

The 900 captains don't all have to come from Saab captain. Keep the seatlocks and then at least a few could come from the FO side and reduce the amount of backfill training. OR that was the bs line that was being used last year while all the reinstatement rights and recent downgrade/reupgrades were remaining locked on the Saab. What makes that different now?

I must be going insane..... Why do I keep expecting this company and industry to do things that make good business sense? Time and time again it's been proven that just doesn't happen here.....

Remember a Sept 8 class won't get online until November sometime at best....just in time for the merger to be finalized. I won't believe anything until I see it but this is a big number of new people for nothing to be going on. I would love to see an ATL or SLC base.....but i'll keep dreaming

Could it all just be attrition and getting the last few 900s? I've heard of a lot of pilots planning on leaving recently. I know of guys finally getting a class date at SWA and have also heard rumors of others getting corporate stuff. I think this talk of more planes is a little premature.
