Mesaba new hires

If nothing else, would you really want to be learning a brand new aircraft (for most people) and then just leaving in the middle of training for a "vacation" you really can't do much with? Not me, that's for sure!

The contract only stipulates that there will be no training on Christmas and New years day. That doesn't mean you couldn't be in the middle of training during that time. That also doesn't mean you couldn't be in Montreal or Denver over this period as well. So... it very much matters if you're in the middle of class during the holidays. Another caveat is that if you've got vacation over the holidays... once you go to class for a new position, your awarded vacation blocks in your old position get dumped back into your vacation bank for you to rebid. So... if I was a "senior" FO and had a vacation slot with Christmas off, I wouldn't want to go to training either until after the holidays.
Im in training right now, started on the Dec. 15 class. We have the next 5 days off. We were suppose to start back up on the 26th but worked it out to not have class that day and make it up on Sunday the 28th instead. Kinda a good deal for us so we could go home and give us a couple days to get back. We haven't started systems yet so it came at a good time. I guess just luck of the draw....

When the vacancy award comes out for the new hire class you're assigned to, the base vacancies will be known for the new hires. These are the spots you'll be bidding on when you get to class.
Each vacancy contains basically a saab class and a 900 class or a saab class and a 200 class. Going into the future, it looks like only classes for 900 and saabs will be available. However, if movement from 200 FOs takes place, there will likely be classes for the 200.
As for the day in class that you bid, I'm not sure. It'll happen early on though and if you get a base you don't want, you can set your preference bid up to reflect what you want and then see what happens on the subsequent vacancies. Vacancies have been coming out roughly every 2 weeks and will continue to do so until the hiring stops.
Hope that helps... PM if you need further clarification.

Thanks. I don't have PM priveliges yet, so I'll respond here again.
I guess what I am trying to ask is that... Does HR assign you the acft before they know the vacancy for your class? For example, I was never told what equipment I was on.
Thanks again!

You will either get the 900 or SAAB. If I was betting, I'd suspect 900 MEM but I am not anywhere in the hiring process.

I have been assigned the 900 and Memphis as a domicile...I'm wondering about the benefits and drawbacks associated with each base at the present time. Should I expect to be off reserve faster at Memphis than at Detroit? Is it more junior than Detroit at this time? How does everyone like living in Memphis? How is operating at of the terminal there versus Detroit? Thanks in advance.

HR knows the class make ups through spring, but it's always subject to change. You'll likely know your equipment before you get to class, but if not, you'll know very soon into class.
