Get a normal flight case...one without wheels. A LuggageWorks flight case is great (I have the split top leather one), Scott Leather has a GREAT one too, although it is pricey you get what you pay for.

Please don't be like some new folks I see with a nylon Sporty's bag...

So you recommend a hard flight case? Is that what most people have? I have a soft briefcase type that I thought might work, but I am thinking it might not be big enough.

Yes, the traditional "airline pilot flight case" will suit you well.

Thanks for the sites. Why do they and you recommend one without wheels, its seems like most pilots I see in the airports have rolling cases(maybe these are their suitcases though). Is this going in the overhead while you fly? Thanks for the help!

Your suitcase (rollaboard) will need wheels and a bag hook; I have the 737 Stealth LuggageWorks bag and it is great! Its expensive but is a TANK; it will last a long time, especially if you commute. Travelpro is junk, stay away from it. You're living out of your suitcase half (or more) the month..spend wisely.

The same can be said about your flight case. If you get a flight case with wheels it will not fit properly in the CRJ's bag well beside your seat. You can spend nearly $400 on a super-nice leather Scott bag that will last a couple decades, or you can spend $40 and get a cheap Office Depot chart case that will last you at best a couple years. I found the PNT Split-Top leather bag to be a good compromise; it works nice and has a ton of room, but is an inch or two taller than the nylon, vinyl or premium leather bag and the flap rubs against the lower circuit breaker panel when I open it.

Thanks BoilerUP, great help, just ordered one of the luggage works flight cases. About the rolling suitcase, must that also meet the overheard compartment limits of the CRJ, which according to what I found are 19x15x11? Isn't the 737 Stealth bag bigger than that?

I think any PNT/LuggageWorks bag will fit in a CRJ overhead (as long as it isn't way overstuffed); the 22" bags will fit under a row of seats. My 737 bag fits EASILY in an overhead, even with 5 days of clothes in it.

My Luggageworks/PNT rollaboard suitcase has 6 years of airline use and abuse and is going strong.

Accept no substitute.

It will last me until I am 65.

I have the 60.00 chart case from Office Max. It lasted through the 1900 and now the CRJ without any problems. Get the other one later down the road when you can afford it. There is nothing wrong with the one I have. I don't see it breaking down anytime in the near future.
