A few AWAC questions
#1
First post here so please go easy. I've done several searches and got some good info on Air Wisconsin, but I have two questions:
1) I've read that DC is the senior base, but what are the chances of getting PHL in the first 6 months to a year?
2) Does anyone know if they build out-and-back lines out of PHL ever?
In case you can't tell, I am a local Philly boy who actually likes it here. Please don't take that as a cue to discuss your thoughts on Philadelphia- or its sports teams. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Thanks for the info. I also forgot to ask how many hours of pay do you typically end up with on your paysheet every month? (I'm assuming at least one of you works there now) I used to work at another regional and I probably averaged 95 hrs/month without doing anything to modify my line. Some guys would be getting 150+ hrs but of course they had no life (unless you count time at hotel bars).

Thanks Saab2000 that is good info. Is it possible while starting out on reserve to hold a part time 2nd job? Just curious because I am meeting with AWAC this weekend in ATL and they are my top choice , I d reall y like to come there. I hear reserve is about 8 months to a year? Is that correct?

I would venture to say that if hired today, you would not be on RSV for that long. I have been on RSV for 12 straight bid periods in PHL, but as of June 1, i am done with RSV. Part of the problem is that we didn't hire or upgrade for 6 months.

thanks Bizzum, how difficult would it be to get a PHL domicile??? I am gonna commute from BOS and I think it will be doable, maybe a pain at first while on RSV. How was training? I hear that they are great. I am going to ATL to the job fair this weekend and hoping to Interview, how do you think i wil do? And have heard that they offer people the job at these fairs if they like you....I hear they ar every HR based.

You will get PHL, if not right away, by the time you hit the line. Commuting from BOS would be easy. Our RSV its not horrible for commuting, you will need a crashpad tho. As long as you get a 9am start time your first day, you can make it to PHL from BOS and be covered by the commuter clause. You can get released from RSV on your last day as early as noon, which makes it easy to get home on your last day. The interviews are really HR oriented. They want to know if you are going to fit in with our culture. You may get a couple easy tech questions on your current twin. Good luck in ATL.

You would be able to get PHL either right out of training or quickly thereafter. Training at AWAC is pretty good. If you study, show good attitude (no arrogance, be on time, etc.) you'll do fine as long as you have normal flying skills. By normal flying skills I mean +/- 1 knot at all times, +/- 1 foot on altitude, perfect flows and callouts on sim session nr. 1, etc. The usual......
Just kidding. Attitude is everything here. Be yourself. Unless you are an arrogant dick, cuz they either don't get hired or get fired in their first year. Don't wear your sunglasses into the interview or indoors. We had one guy on my interview group who did this. What is he doing today? Well, he's not at AWAC.
As far as a 2nd job? What kind of job do you mean? If you have something flexible you might be able to. You can't have another flying gig if that's what you mean. No CFIing, or I'd get my CFI. But if you know someone up there in BOS who will let you just do your job on your days off you should be OK.
We are starting to see a bit of movement here. Not too much, but word is that we will be hiring about 6-12 per month now for the foreseeable future. Hopefully upgrades along the same lines. If you have more specific questions, shoot now, cuz I am sitting in MKE with nothing to do for the next 5 hours.
One more thing, even with the commuter clause, you don't want to give them any reason to raise their eyebrows during your first year. Sometimes this means commuting in the night before or whatever just to stay below the radar. The guys who have trouble are the ones that ATW finds out are late or unavailable on reserve, etc. Not trying to scare you or anyone else, but you really have to play their game for the first year of probation. Probably the same anywhere. But I do know it is not uncommon for people to get near their probationary PC and then get a bad call from HQ if they have been less than good team players. Just a 'heads up'.
