That's true in the US...but not at a number of foriegn airlines. In some cases a year 5 FO who upgrades becomes a year 1 CA

Eagle would be a bad example...plan on being an FO for 5+ years, and that's being optimistic (it's 8 years now).

Typical, average regional you would upgrade at around 3 years...at which point you would be a year 3 CA.

I feel so dumb, I can't believe I didn't know this all this time. I thought when you upgrade you start over at Year 1 Captain pay. I looked up some salaries and did some quick math... my friend and I started training at different airlines around the same time.. we have the same first year salary.. but in 2 years, he'll make at LEAST $20k/yr more than I will!! (My RJ-driving friend who will get paid Year 3 Capt. salary of $60/hr when he upgrades in 2 years.. and me, whose Year 3 Capt. salary will be $40/hr.
