Welcome to Comair guys. The company announced last week that they are only hiring 10-12 a month. However in the same e-mail literally 2 lines down they say attrition is 20 a month?? If you talk to scheduling they are begging people to work extra and we are canceling flights due to lack of crews. So obviously it makes sense to hire less pilots than are leaving. My guess is that hiring will pick up again to the 30-40 a month range fairly soon. Rumbling from the training department is that they already know that and are preparing for it. Good luck guys. Training department is great they will due everything they can to help you but make sure they know if you are having trouble.

I haven't heard this. From what I've heard, scheduling will fly your @ss off, but once you get your 100 hours, they hardly use you at all until you get a line. A guy in my crash pad has only flown 20 hours in July. Also, if you look at most airlines, they have an average of 10 pilots per aircraft in the fleet. At Comair, we have 130ish planes and over 1600 pilots. I really don't think there's much of a staffing problem now.

Your right we have only cancelled a handful of flights for crew availabilty. However we have been downsizing alot of flight to 50 seaters, cause of lack of F.O. in the 70 seaters. However alot of new F.O. coming online in a few weeks so hopefully it should balance it self out soon.
JFK is kicking are A$S with the time out issues.

I guess the company finally got sick of us canceling flights for commuter clause issues when bad weather is on the way. I got an automated call from the company last night saying there would be bad weather in JFK on sat and sun and they were willing to pay for commuters hotels if they came up early. JFK is terrible because of the way the ramp and boarding gates are run and unfortunately that is Mother D. Then they will turn around and blame Comair for the delays. Off my box. Don't let us discourage you, just think after the door is closed you are payed by the minute.

For those that work for Comair who is CVG and who is JFK? Right now I'm thinking I would rather live by CVG (shorter commute) but I also actually want to work, so my question is how much flying are the CVG folks getting vs. those that are JFK? What are you guys doing for living arrangements at JFK and how long is reserve at each base? I know we've talked about that but it seems to change fairly frequently. I know this is assuming that I have a choice which I probably won't have but I don't want to bid for something I don't want.
