dash 8 .... the scoope

I'm not tired of hearing about the capabilities of the Dash 8; in fact, I readily acknowledge that there have been quite a few times I've found myself wishing for the short-field performance of it (or just about any turboprop). It just seems that we can't have a single thread on this board without it turning to a props v. jets "discussion."

And the thread was never a "props vs. jets" "discussion" until a jet driver brought up what his jet could do in comparison to the props.
I miss the Dash...it really was a blast to fly, especially while at 9,000' on a downwind to CLT...
ATC: "Piedmont, I can get you in front of XXX if you can take a short approach"
Us: "Roger, no problem"
Ahhh, those were the days...

Surprisingly enough, it's not that bad. I don't give the signal to disconnect the ground air until we have completed the before start checklist, and normally they plug it in pretty quickly after we shut down #2. Still gets a little warm every now and then though.

I've been in & out of State College, PA many times over the years in 5 different types and in all kinds of weather. Winter is really fun there.
Shorts 360 = I was afraid I wouldn't make it over the ridge line on departure.
F 27 = I was afraid I'd go off the end trying to stop.
Jetstream 41 = I was afraid the winds would blow this POS off the side.
CRJ = That's a short runway at 9 zillion knots down the chute.
Dash 8 = Piece of cake. Like landing at the shuttle landing facility.
Every plane has it's plus and minus features, but the Dash is just a darn good all around plane. It's the Caddy of the prop world for sure. It ain't mach point 85 on the way to Paris at FL450 like the Gulfstream, but if you earn a living in the northeast grinding out 5 to 6 legs a day in the snow it's a safe capable ride.

That is the SCOOPE! (I am also curious as to what a "Scoope" is - probably some kind of new, Glass cockpit type word).

I sent in an app/resume to piedmont. Hopefully I'll get to fly the Dash 8. Sounds fun. I always wanted to fly the Dash 7 in the Altiports of the French Alps. Check out what they use to land the Dash 7 on in LFLJ (Courchevel).

The one below is the Dash 7 on takeoff roll at Courchevel. Awsome stuff!
