Hi all,
Crushing news today. My regional rescinded my CJO a month before my class date. They sent me an email saying the decision is a result of reviewing my background check and onboarding documents.
I answered everything truthfully on my application so I’m stumped. I emailed them back and also called and left a message requesting clarification and an opportunity to address this.
I haven’t heard back yet but still wanted to ask if anyone has been through this and could give me some pointers or let me know what I can expect.

I’ll start by asking is there anything from your past that you think may have prompted them to rescind? Or is there genuinely nothing? no skeletons, no checkride failures, problems with previous employers, DUI’s, criminal acts, getting drunk and going streaking through your local city/town, nothing you were dishonest about and didn’t disclose on the app and at a total loss for words and can’t figure out why this may have happened? Not saying or implying you did ANYTHING, just curious that’s all.

I asked the background check company to send me a copy of the report. They said they’ll send it to me within one or two days. I’ll take a look at it and see what’s in there.
I checked my PRIA before applying, and there was nothing in there except for one failed check ride, which I disclosed to the airline.

On rare occasions I’ve heard of errors happening. Prior to Covid I had a hiccup during the background check process when I was applying to another regional airline. I forgot what exactly happened, but the regional in question said they needed to rerun the background check on me as they believed it was in error, regarding a previous non aviation employer or something, idk, can’t remember the details. I was still hired on, everything checked out with them regarding the background check, but I got a little scared because I’m like there’s nothing fishy in my background, no criminal record, etc. etc. so I couldn’t figure out what the issue may have been while I was waiting. But it did delay me getting started. I ended up leaving them anyway after Covid went into full swing and applied to a different carrier after hired picked up later on.

Yea, it’s tough to say and you may not know until you obtain that copy from them.

Glad to hear it worked out for you.

And it is entirely possible that the airline became a little spooked by the ongoing Middle East issues and decided to slow their training and cancelled some or all of their CJOs That happened to a number of people, both aspiring to go to regionals and to majors early in the COVID days. They also offered early retirements to many senior pilots - something largely responsible for the flood of hiring when flying snapped back unexpectedly soon after COVID.

How did you know which background company the airline used? I Might run a prophylactic check for SnGs!

I see two possibilities here
1) they found something they didn't like. They made a judgement call based on true facts. You need to move along
2) They found something that isn't true. You can probably get this reversed IF the right person looks over it. I might consider putting a suit and tie on and trying to talk to someone in HR face to face. Even if they won't reconsider, finding out what the item was can help you fix it for next go round. If somebody else's felony is showing up on your record, better know that now.
