There are few things that I am particular about when it comes to our image as professionals. Sunglasses indoors (especially when it is dim) backpacks worn on your back (Ok if you just drape it over your suite case…. And clip on ties. There is no doubt they are more convenient and less of a hassle, but all of us worked damn hard and sacrificed a lot to achieve our goals of doing what we are doing. I guess I have a little too much pride. The truth is most people will never notice, but I for one can tell, and I am sure there are a few, (even if a very few) pax that notice as well. There is no doubt that a nicely done tie always looks better than a clip on. What would you think if you hired a lawyer and he came to court with a backpack on his back, sunglasses, and a clip on tie. If we want to be treated and respected like the professionals that we are, then at least we should dress that part!

A real man would not deign himself to a clip-on. An actual tie is the only way to go.

Sure; whatever we buy or dig out of the trash cans. That's why I put "crew meals" in quotes.

I must be buying my shirts in the wrong neck size, I feel like I am going to choke, so I use the trad tie to keep my colar closed
yeah me too.. I have both, but I've never used the clip on yet because I'd have to keep the top button closed. With my normal tie, I slip it on, tighten it and then unbutton the top most button. you're not the only one who feels choked!

I love my job sooo much and desire to uphold my company image at Mesa (the bestest and most classy airline out there that has impeccably clean aircraft and well-spoken/polite employees) that I went out a bought a $200 silk tie (yes, Gucci).

Yea, right. Actually it was only 100 and a Talbot.

Guess I oughta get a hobby or something huh? What's that you say? Don't be a tool? Moi?

I use the zipper. Personally I like a good regular tie. I had three of them when hired and they've already gone to crap. I guess they weren't meant to be retied everyday. They got all fuzzy and trashy looking so I did the next best thing and picked up the zipper. As far as safety concerns go I've never even considered it lol. I've never heard of anyone crashing a jet and having the tie be the reason they didn't get out.

I'd like to see you fight a terrorist with a regular tie. Go to FFDO school and you wear a clip on from then on.
