Delta blames weather, JFK for poor on-time showing
Posted: September 4th, 2008 10:39 AM GMT-05:00
Delta Air Lines and its regional carrier Comair ranked low in on-time arrival performance in July, according to federal data released Wednesday.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics, Atlanta-based Delta ranked No. 15 for on-time arrival performance among 19 carriers ranked. About 69.6 percent of Delta's flights arrived on time in July.
Thunderstorms delayed many Delta flights, and airspace congestion at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport "continues to hinder our operations," said Delta spokesman Kent Landers.
Umm... you're not the only airline that got hindered by weather in JFK. It's your crappy a$$ operation and your big parking lot around Terminal 3.
AirTran Airways, which has its largest hub in Atlanta, ranked No. 12 with 71.1 percent.
Delta-owned regional carrier Comair, based in Erlanger, Ky., ranked last for on-time arrival performance with only 63.3 percent of flights arriving on time in July.
"Weather, ground delay programs --- all of that had a significant impact on us," said Comair spokesman Jeff Pugh. "We have a significant operational presence in the Northeast and we continue to experience with some of the regional issues in the Northeast."
Again, blame it on the weather. I know it was an unusual season for T-Storms in the northeast, but everyone is dealing with weather and ground delay programs in JFK. They don't mention the lazy rampers, lack of equipment, and of course the genius horseshoe parking lot, and Pad 11.
Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport ranked No. 24 for on-time arrival performance in July with 69.6 percent of flights arriving on time.
The airlines reported that 7.78 percent of their flights were delayed by aviation system delay in July, 7.17 percent by late-arriving aircraft, 6.3 percent by maintenance or crew problems or other factors within the airline's control, 1 percent by extreme weather and 0.05 percent for security reasons.
