I was really surprised to listen to so many guys that have no clue what they are going to do after they are furloughed. From the sounds of it, the younger and recently hired ones are just going to move back in with their parents and bum of off them. Awesome!

Whats your plan if you get furloughed......your a heartbeat away from the streets.......... "Awesome!" Most people can't afford to do anything but move back in with their parents, initially at least... My rent alone is 300 more than I would make a MONTH on unemployment..... "younger" "new" guys....you are the same age as most of us...and oh so senior! blah.

I am younger, I am recently hired, I am MOVING IN WITH MY MOM..... I am also getting a masters degree, and putting together my stuff for the air force.... guess I am just a bum

I'm surprised nobody has said anything about people whoring them selves out. I'm sure there are so many low time guys dying to fly free. I hope everybody stands up and doesn't fly for B.S. pay because they can't find a job.
Well, you are doing the right thing. Like I said before, the big thing is going to be the loss of health insurance, especially for people that have a family. Problem is, there are quite a few new-hires that just came out of a certain "academy", that all they know how to do is fly an airplane. Some of them don't even have a a 4 year degree, and those are the same guys that will move back in with their parents, who paid for their flight training in the first place. I'm not making this up, I've actually heard this from a few guys in Ops.

And for the guys that are saying there are no Flying jobs out there right now, I call BS on that. You are not looking hard enough, not using your co-workers, friends, family to network or are "too good" to fly anything other than a jet. There quite a few jobs out there that pay you more than you make now and give you full health benefits. I know it might be though to pack up and move to another state, especially with a family.

If you want to sit around and wait for recall, you will be waiting for a very long time...

I have no idea what your problem is, but don't blame me for you getting furloughed. Hell yeah I was only a few people away from getting furloughed and I might not even be save now. But, as soon as they were talking furloughs, I was on the phone with friends, former employers, etc starting to look for backups. We all have financial problems, I have to pay rent and bills. You are doing the right thing with the masters degree and looking at different options, I never said you were a bum. I was pointing out some of the people that I have talked to or heard talk in ops. You need to stop blaming other people for all your problems! We all have problems!

Relax buddy, I am not blaming anyone. What I am saying is you come on here preaching to everyone about what they should do..... quit it... I dont need to you tell me "i am doing the right thing"

you told readytoquit "you are doing the right thing"

Why does everyone need your approval? That is my problem. How am I blaming you for my furlough, just stop preaching to everyone... no one cares if you approve or not.

I'm not preaching to anyone! Especially you, since you won't listen to anyone anyway. If people want to sit around and wait for recall, go find a non-aviation flying job, become a stripper, go for it! I don't care. I just want to help out people. I have had people that helped me out in the past to get me jobs, and I wouldn't be where I am today if it wouldn't have been for some of these people. I'm all about "paying it forward". This industry has too many backstabber's, while we should be in this all together, helping each other out.

I second the masters degree... Thinking about doing one myself. Also looking at possibly getting a job with the FAA flying a desk for a while. I have applied feverishly at other airlines, 135 and corporate jobs with no word back. Also thinking about medical school. In the mean time, I think I'm going to go back to my old job as a webmaster and computer programmer to make ends meet.

Why are all you people speculating and getting all bent about something none of us know anything about. Smithee6 you are quite possibly the worst of all stirring up a hornets nest with all of these fragile minded people. Obviously none of us have a crystal ball about what is going to happen and the fact that we have "pilots" analyzing the economy is absolutely insane. None of you are even remotely qualified to make any kind of comment about that let alone what is going on in our industry.

Seriously, who even knows what the union or the company are going to due tomorrow? Hell, a month ago we were getting more planes, then we weren't, then we were, then we were going to furlough. I swear people sit and read what you are writing... why don't you all shut up, do your jobs while you have them and then move on with your lives.

You people are the ones breeding the rumors and stirring up the animosity among the work place. You all need to grow up and just do what you know how to do... and that is supposedly fly... but gossip seems to be what you all are better at.

Interesting that when I got the call today I was told by the furlough rep that historically for every 27 recalls only 10 accepted. Agreed, the 'worst case' for callbacks was 50 by March/April '09 according to the phone call.

Same call different information, or people on the forums not quoting information correctly? Either would be shocking don't you think...
