Asa.......

Here's my question, how much would it cost you to rent a C-152 (where you live), and fly it for 100 hours to get up from the 400 you have to the 500 you need. At my local FBO (KBOW) it's $60.00/hr wet.....so that is $6,000.00........how much is the FTD Class, I believe the same........so assuming you rented the C-152 and flew actual 7 hours per day that would be 14-15 days of straight flying....
But that now puts you at a total time of 500, vs taking the FTD class. If you take the FTD Class yeah you get the interview, but what if you have a bad day, blow the sim, or a question and don't get the job......you got CRJ Training, but still only 400 hours and need the extra 100 (or possibly more) to apply elsewhere, and might get a job flying an ATR or EMB airplane, so the CRJ Training is not helping in this situation. Remember ASA does have ATR's assigned to new hires....
I would just rent the C-152 log the extra hours, you'll always have them......It will take you about 5-7 days longer, but you're now a "new hire applicant at 500/75".
This is just my .02, take it for what it's worth!!!! Best of Luck to whatever you choose to do!!!!

With the new TA, and hopefully a contract, attrition should slow some, and reserve time will begin to grow longer as new F/Os are hired and trained.
Good Luck!

If you have your CFI, how long will it take you to built 200 hrs? 3 month?

Unless it gives you seniority to hold captain right out of there, you're not going to recoup the costs.
For what it's worth, two guys in my class took that. Both of them double failed on the oral and were canned. Funny thing is that one is still on ATP's "these guys went here and are now airline pilots" page. Guess getting hired is just as good as staying hired right? Good luck trying to get another job with a 121 bust on your record.

I probaby don't... just like I don't understand wasting around 7 grands to get THAT interview at THAT airline when you could INVEST it in something that will matter more to others, Like a CFI ticket for ex.

for someone that is not a pilot getting paid yet, I'll add my 2 cents but it I guess it doesn't matter. The way I look at it, flight hours matter, type of flight hours, knowlage, etc. The flying expirance you'll get with lets say an extra 100 hours IMO will be worth more than the CRJ class. IF you fail at ASA, which believe it or not, not EVERYONE gets hired, then what? 7 grand and a crj class later, that 100 hrs. you COULD have got seems pretty nice right then. I HIGHLY doubt a couple months of senority means a lot. lets say it takes you 3 extra months to go the building time route. Is i worth the risk for 3 months senority over being hireable to many other places than just one? I would/will take my chances and pass up the senority for more flight time. Plus, I find and have been told I am a very good pilot, and the knowlage and skill of my CFI's impresses me. You'll learn a lot that way. 1-2 extra years (we're looking to the future here) over what I hope will be 40 years (from PPL to retirement) is not much, and the expirance I hope to gain I don't think there is a replacement for it. Haveing a CAPT. tell you what to do is differnt than someone teaching you and you teaching others. But I guess if you think you're ready, go for it. Again, Not in that situation quite yet, so take what I say witha grain of salt.

And remember, the CRJ course won't give you the job, it will give you an interview just like more flight time will.
