Good point. The sad truth is, it will be more of the same. SkyWest simply riding the coat tails of the organized pilot groups that negotiate/fight for better pay work rules, like pre 9/11.

Or, since they have no organization, they can continue the low standard that management will use on the unionized groups to say what they should be getting paid, just like in the UAL Ch. 11 bankruptcy. You know, when they said it was OK to agree to an 18 month pay freeze as well as operate 70/90 seats for 50 seat rates. They didn't so anybody any favors on that one. Especially the pilot groups at AWAC/ACA.

For your first post you chose to go there. I don't even find that funny.

Why? I still don't understand the ALPAphobeia so many have. For some its merely a cop out; a way to say they oppose the ALPA drive without actauly admiting to being an anything for growth pro company stooge. That's not directed at you, Tony, I assume based on your activity on the forums and past experience you do have a real reason. I'm just curious what it is. Why would an MEC of SkyWest pilots with the knowledge and finnancial support of ALPA national be inferior to an inhouse union that must fund its self AND pay ALPA for the intellectual support (ala Southwest's in house union). ALPA regional MECs all spend more than they collect, and it seems to me that turning down free money is even crazier than turning down a free sandwich.

At least we can agree on that.

Thanks for you words. Tomorrow is another day.

I thought it was kinda funny...anyways.....

Truly another sad day for an embattled profession. Does this mean the pilot group gets rewarded with ASA's fleet?

T i have a question, and please its not intended to berate or anything like that but is Skywest a place the final place for most of the guys there. And if not would a Skywest pilot turn down a chance to go to a Legacy carrier who is ALPA represented..

The first thing that got my attention was that so many of the pilots working at SkyWest that had come from an ALPA carrier were very anti-ALPA. Not necessarily against a union, just ALPA. Then, you don't have to scratch the surface very far to find MAJOR issues with ALPA at other carriers.

The last union I was in (well, technically, I'm still in it) has never had a decertification effort like that going on at several ALPA carriers. The ALPA supporters need to recognize that the effort failed, in part, because of the brand name of the union, and the issues associated with it.

Would a union without baggage, and marketed better than UPA was, have a chance here? I believe so, down the road. Heck, I think it could be sold to keep ALPA out. The launching point would best be timed with a company major FUBAR, and a singular failed firing (Don D) and a mediocre ASA contract (compared to what we already have) ain't the rallying cries.

ALPA regional MECs all spend more than they collect, and it seems to me that turning down free money is even crazier than turning down a free sandwich.

NOBODY, I repeat, NOBODY *gives* free money. They take my 1.95% to dole it back out to me? No strings? Ya, right.

What happens when United pilots want to take our 900 flying? (purely a hypothetical, albeit unrealistic exercise). If we are ALPA also, who do you think wins? I'm guessing the guys paying the most, or who number the most.

Our own union can fight for us without strings.

I think that can be misleading...if they cam to SKW from another 121 carrier, it was probably a lower-tier one (Mesa) in a "forward lateral" career move where everything was bad, including their ALPA.

The key word being "most" pilots? Most will move on, with the ebbs and flows of the industry. That's the business model. Heck, Delta is taking our FO's, no PIC time. Many will stay for a long time (I'm not even sure what I'll do).

You're trying to connect ALPA at a regional, non-union carrier, with ALPA (or any union) already existing at a major that tons of our pilots have already gone to over the decades.

I don't see the connection. I'd go to Delta or Southwest, if the money was right. Both are union (different unions). Or I'd stay here and probably be pretty happy over the long haul.

Too many look to unionism like a religion. I don't. I'd assess the company, the money, and my quality of life at that carrier. I suspect most do the same.

Hope that answers your questions.
