Or, since they have no organization, they can continue the low standard that management will use on the unionized groups to say what they should be getting paid, just like in the UAL Ch. 11 bankruptcy. You know, when they said it was OK to agree to an 18 month pay freeze as well as operate 70/90 seats for 50 seat rates. They didn't so anybody any favors on that one. Especially the pilot groups at AWAC/ACA.
I guess SkyWest should have told UA to go **** up a rope when they asked for the contract to be redone. The fact is, both AWAC and ACA tried to see who would blink first and they lost. Sadly, you want to blame SkyWest and you should be blaming Kerry Skeen and Geoff Crowley

Go Cowboys!
I stick with my birdz (and my union) through good times and through bad. and a very credible source has informed me that T.O. does in fact have B.O.

As far as the tsa contract goes, I have not read it and am not familiar with the specifics of the language. I apologize for spouting off assuming management would have more ethics than what they showed. I will take the time to read the actual contract before posting next time.

I have to disagree with you about with my knowledge of corporate finance and investment markets, I have taken the class's, and read many books, got the degree.

Yes management is required to give a share holder a return on their investment. Stock buybacks are not a required or even highly common in corporations. They are largely used when management deems the stock undervalued and would like to reduce the supply of shares on the market. This reduction of shares reduces the supply, increasing the price. This can be very lucrative if you own a substantial amount of options or shares of the stock. Hence management is doing their job, to give the share holder a roi. Close to 230,000,000.00 million dollars has been authorized this year alone for stock buybacks. Personally I find this a bit short sited, with skywest's high turnover >50%. With skywest still struggling to fill classes and rampant turnover, I believe that money could in part be better invested in the long term infrastructure of skywest.

I am not sure how you belive that me posting stock buybacks on an internet forum shows a simplistic view of corporate finance, please explain.

by the way this is the difference between mainline and skw.

mainline executives screw their pilots, and the pilots are MAD and are doing something about it and WILL get good contracts.

skywest executives screw their pilots, yet their pilots seem to be in love with them. whats wrong with that picture?

Ghilis, I agree. It’s pretty frustrating to watch. I really believe that most are apathetic, and have no clue how our industry works, or how politics are involved, and the role of management and labor. Guess it’s our job to try to educate them. Hell, even the truck drivers get it....

Unfortunately, this is one of the main reasons it's so hard to organize at the regoinal level. We all need to think about where we may be when the "music stops". I wish you all the best of luck.

You're right Bla, education is the key.

If you havent taken organizational theory and various management courses, you wouldnt believe some of the stuff that they teach managers. Everything is tactics and techniques on how to get your employees to do what you want, and in the meantime keep them from organizing. All of my management books told me that unions are bad, bad, bad. Now why do you think they are teaching MBA's that unions are bad? Because it takes some of that balance of power and skews in the direction of labor.

so if youre going to be anti-union, realize that youre doing their job for them for free. unless you get hired on as management, you really shouldnt side with them but you can still have a positive relationship. not asking you to burn the house down. just realize where your loyalties should lie
