pretty good question!, here at Expressjet the F/Os are SIC typed, which is worthless but at Big momma CAL they get typed of the bat, but they still aren't signing for the airplane. There using that type to go to Brown or SWA, haha j/k sorta
so even if you are typed doesn't mean you are the PIC
so even if you are typed doesn't mean you are the PICCool. Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

Many of the FO's now are PIC typed because we now do IRO(relief pilot) duties. So, even if that Capt is sleeping and I'm sitting in the left seat, there is no PIC to be had. The airlines when interviewing you expect it to be the guy who is signs for the airplane(and ultimately responsible) and there is only one guy per flight that fits that description, the Captain.

The CA is the only one that the company will type. The FO is not required to have a type rating in the aircraft. The CA is the PIC, as the FO you log SIC. Most places alternate legs, but just because you are flying the aircraft, does not make you PIC. By the way......3yrs to upgrade at AWAC.....I wouldn't exactly call this "long."
Good question ATP and good for you to ask despite the children lurking around here.
