SP92, thanks for all the valuable info.. it's always great hearing from someone who likes working for the company he or she is with. I'm also from Houston, my brother is a gate agent for XJT and my dad used to work for CAL a few years ago before health problems.

A question if I may -- did you go to flight school here in Houston? If so, which one and would you recommend it?

Best regards and merry x-mas to all!

Chris

Thanks. It looks a lot like the college I'm going to now, only mine is in Pasadena. I see XJT and CAL planes in the skies around here all the time so I have great respect for you guys.

I almost went to san jac, i choose TSTC after checking them both out only because in my opinion its in a better learning area for flying. Slower airspace lots of approaches to shoot etc. I hear San Jac is a good school as well. I finished my bachelors at Tarleton State University in Killeen. Bachelors of Science with minor in Business.

4th year Capt rate is $64 an hour and saying they only get the 75 hour MMG they are making $57,600 for the year not counting Perdiem. I avg 400 a month just in perdiem so do the math thats 4800 a year in perdiem. so add that together thats $57,600 + $4800= $62,400 a year before taxes.
Thats based on long jet pay its a little lower for short jet pay but your 46k is wrong/

Why do you commuter pilots count perdiem as part of your pay? Don't you eat out on the road? That must be what the backpacks you all wear are for, to carry your food with you on your trip. What a miserable existence that must be.

Count it what you wish and hey boss why dont you just relax a bit. Commuter pilot- Yes i am because i have to start somewhere as i am 24 years old a year out of college. Not everyone is born into the capt seat at a Major carrier. I am trying to work and earn my way up and this is just part of the puzzle for me. Miserable Existence? No not really, i dont think so, could it be better? Yes could it be worse? Yes. I enjoy everday as i have a wonderful family that i am proud of so no its not a miserable existence? Is yours because you obviously are much better than everyone else and look down on others. I hope you had a good Christmas and you got that cool backpack that was on you christmas list.

PS i dont where a backpack.

Merry Chrismas to all

Because we don't think we are worth much so me make ourselves feel better that way. It makes us think we make more than we actually do.

I don't know of any other profession that considers per diem as part of their pay. It's amazing what we get in per diem vs. what the gov. thinks we shoud get. ie. for tax purposes

I have friends who think that if we stay at cheaper hotels that we will make more money. Management doesn't say hey thanks for saving us $30 why don't you keep $10.

Why do YOU major pilots come "slumming" in the regional threads? Is it so you can generalize and look down your nose at us from your palace on the hill? Something is brown here, and it's not just the big shiny airplane you had to pay your dues to fly.
