Passport for Jumpseating?

The TSA requires us agents to check passport, work id, and photo in order to grant one a ride up front. If you don't have the passport, we can allow to sit in the back. Deltamatic(Delta's Computer System) would automatically put you on the standby list for a seat in the back and will not allow you up front if we don't check that we verified your passport.

Just needed to say sorry about your truck. I had a car that was broken into about 5 times and stolen 4 times. The last time they actually stripped it but I was prepared. Because I owed more than what I would get for the car, I was forced to keep it. Anyhow, I see better days now.....

Gate agents are stupid for the most part and don't understand the rules. They just make up their own so whether or not you actually need one is irrelevant, the question is would it be smart to have one and the answer is YES!
Kind of harsh words to say don't you think? Don't attack the man(or woman) who is trying to do their jobs. As far as we know, TSA is requiring us to check them. Now, if they are not requiring the company the company(Speaking for Delta) is requiring us. Now, if "gate agents are stupid for the most part" and you think you can do a better job, as I tell passengers you are welcomed to show me how to do my job. If not, thanks for flying with us......

You must have a passport and you must have it on your person. To give you an idea I was going to jumpseat on southwest, sit in the back, when they asked for my passport. It was shortly after my truck had been broken into and was robbed. I had a new passport but different number. They wouldn't let me on the aircraft because the numbers didn't match even though my airline ID was valid, had a current valid passport, current DL, was in uniform, was current in CASS, and CASS had my picture up proving it was me even further. This was the only instance in which I was ever actually checked for it. However it is required.

I almost didn't get on Delta in SLC a month ago cause I didn't have my passport. Told the story to my jumpseat committe and they said you should always carry your passport as it used to be a requirement and and changing the software in the computers to reflect the current standards isn't going to happen due to cost.
If you don't carry it, you'll eventually get burned.

I said one time not every time. I JS on SWA from STL to HOU when things are tight and I can't get on an RJ into IAH. I've never been asked again. However the one time sucked bad enough. Just because they don't ask doesn't mean they aren't within their limits to do so.

United almost always asks, Northwest does in MSP but not ORD. A United agent once told me they use it to verify identity because some ID pictures and/or passport pictures can be pretty out-of-date and it just gives them an extra level of security.
Company makes me carry it anyway so my passport just lives in my coat pocket. Never hurts and I haven't lost it yet.

Every time I jump on American the gate agents ask me for my passport. Now I just give it to every gate agent with my ID badge when I check in unless it's SkyWest or United.

Sounded like an all or nothing statement to me.
