PHL will tell you on the ATIS. Its usually not a problem though b/c if you are running that long of a final, they will have you slowed to 190 or 170 anyway.

What is it with the Texas airports trying to burn us? I hear more horror stories about IAH and DFW than anywhere else.

I understand that this only applies to Class C and D airspace. I don't think a temporary tower counts unless there is also class C or D airspace associated with the temp tower.

Keep your situational awareness by using your charts. If you have FMS and Glass - you might also build some rings around the airport on your multi-function display. This will help keep you more aware of where the surface ring and the next ring are located.

RED FLAG - Long finals with low altitude.
ATC is allowed to give you a clearance that puts you below class B airspace. You just have to make sure you are at or below 200 kts when exiting class B airspace.

In my experience, 99% of the time you are vectored out of Class B, ATC won't say a word, but they have already slowed you below 200KIAS. If they need to vector you outside the airspace, they probably have everbody low and/or slow...

Actually, yes! When you slow down like that on downwind and ATC didn't assign it and didn't expect it, you just screwed the entire line behind you and probably threw some into holding. ATC is worried about separation. Slowing down on downwind now will make everybody behind you slow down as well to keep the same separation. Besides that, 250 kts keeps the airplane "clean" and saves gas.

It depends on your ac's L/D max for one...

Take a look at the long-range cruise figures for your aircraft. I am sure you will find the airspeed's to be quite a bit less than 250KIAS...

Actually mine is about 270 kts or .82 mach. Most swept wing jets L/D max is at cruise speed.
