I heard the same thing last week. I talked to a guy who talked to a guy who talked to a guy who talked to a guy who flew chip and the whole clan to phoenix last week. Rumor is skyw is getting the us air flying, how that happens Im not sure. Also for what its worth, part of the rumor was chip was pretty cool, and got them court side seats to the suns.

I always thought that the US Airways flying that Mesa operates right now out of PHX and LAS would be something that Skywest mgmt would fight aggressively for if it were up for grabs.. but the idea of purchasing a company like Mesa and inheriting all their disgruntled employees, broken airplanes, and other problems doesnt seem like something that Jerry and Co. would want to deal with.. why would you want to buy a company thats gonna take so much effort to change the corporate culture.. my guess is that we'd just wait for Mesa to enter bancruptcy and then tell Airways we'd be happy to take over their Phoenix and Vegas operations..
also the idea of integrating (stapling) the seniority lists makes no sense either.. especially with Mesa being ALPA..

Why not ASA?
Just wondering why if SkyWest Inc buys Mesa they would merge with SkyWest and not ASA since both ASA and Mesa are ALPA?
I'm sure SkyWest would be happy to take over the flying but how would they come up with the planes, people and ops to take it over so quickly? The easiest way to do that would be to purchase the whole bundle then slowly change the culture.
I wonder what would happen with the Mesa Pilot Development school, would SkyWest inherit the bonanzas and barons along with the private pilots? Or is that separate company?

Why would anyone buy Mesa? They will lose all their flying over time. If a company really wants it, they can just save money and wait to bid for it. Why buys something that will be given away for free? If they need the planes, then Mesa will be willing to sell when they go bankrupt.

1) Airframes - maintain them and their just as good as your airplanes.
2) I'd say a solid 75% of our guys are pretty stand up guys and damn good pilots. Especially those dash guys. Think of what we deal with daily, and the fact that we do it safely (knock on wood). Those same guys would radically change their attitudes when being under the command of competent people, who aren't fellons.
3) Fire JO and everyone else in a position of power, and fill those positions with competent men and women who know how to properly run an airline.

Yeah, I bet if SkyWest bought Mesa and they worked under our work rules, they would be an extrememly happy and productive pilot group. This rumor makes more sense than the Southwest one. Can anyone see Mesa surviving past three or four years?
