This might be a stupid question but here it goes: Will a AE pilots family only have travel benefits on AE or will they also get AA?

This is a quote from the AE Careers website:

Through American Eagle, American Airlines and the oneworld® Alliance, our employees—along with their families and friends—enjoy the freedom to travel almost anywhere in the world.

An American Eagle pilot's parents, wife or husband (or sigificant travel companion if not married) and children get travel benifits on American and American Eagle for a small fee of about $10 per flight leg per person (about $20 for first class). International flights are more expensive because of taxes. Of course, you are standby even though you are paying a small fee.

I believe after a certain amount of service travel is free, but I dont know how many years.

After 5 years, the domestic coach travel fee is waived. International rates remain the same, until I think 15 or 18 years, when it is reduced, but not eliminated.

AMR is in the process of spinning off AE and have informed us that the travel benefits will probably change when this happens. If AE gets spun off and gets a 5year service contract with AA then we will keep some sort of travel benefit for 5 years. Beyond that who knows.

Side note back to the insurance...DO NOT BUY THE VISION PLAN. It's completely worthless. $5 discount on your screening and a slight discount on glasses frames. No help on lenses or soft contacts and its more per month than it helps on the once a year appointment.

The dental plan is actually pretty good, the PPO (more expensive option) is excellent and the Rx coverage is very resonable.

As for travel I don't know why they even mention the oneworld thing, the non-reving is only on AA, AE and AX unless you ZED fare. Other airlines have much better travel benefits but AA/AE does have one of the few systems where boarding priority is based on time of check-in (max 4 hrs prior to departure) instead of seniority. I personally think the system is bogus in the long run but it can really work to your advantage as a newbie.

This is an important question. Also how much is going to taxes?? Are you listed as 1 deduction or 0 or 4 this all matters as well.

I don't work for AE but you guys are claiming that you are bringing home close to what I do at $61 an hour??

Difference is I am putting in 10% to 401K w/ family health, uniform allowance, extra life ins. on me and my wife, and last but not least I have my taxes set for claiming 0. I know this isnt the best investment idea but it gives me a very large return at the end of the year that I would other wise probably never be able to save.

After all that making 61 an hour = about 3200 - 3400 bring home with about an 80 - 85 hour line.

Yes, I was wondering the same thing because after I retire from the Army, I will go to flight school, then try to get on with Eagle and work at DFW if I can. I have a wife and a young son.

A first year Eagle FO here - on reserve - and taking the full medical PPO package with dental and vision for $303/month (basically employee + 2 package which covers your spouse and all of your kids too)

taking home $536 for the mid-month paycheck and taking home $750-800 for the end of the month paycheck depending on how much I am away from base (averaging 150 hours/month away from base). I don't break the 75hr guarantee and I haven't been picking up OT.

Basically I make enough to cover the mortgage - my wife's job and income covers everything else.

For those retiring from the military, your monthly military pension will be bigger than your monthly Eagle paycheck. And you might want to see about staying on TriCare (will save you $300/month in insurance costs add $150/paycheck to takehome pay). I don't know how good TriCare is compared to Eagle (United Healthcare) insurance though.
