One year into my flight taining, I realized the nature of the training program was going to make me hate flying. I went out and spent the few grand I had in savings on a small plane to fly on the weekends...

When I first began training for Trans States, I remember thinking "wow all this automation is great!" That feeling lasted about two weeks on the Line, at which point I realized that it was a crap job that paid lousy, and I wasn't able to do what it was that got me into flying in the first place - flying the damn airplane!

Once you do get into the 121 gig, I strongly urge you to keep your skills up - don't use the automation religiously, hand-fly the plane raw-data once in a while, and go green-needles (land-nav). It's amazing how the little stuff you do up there that actually requires thinking can make the job enjoyable again.

Sure the job sucks sometimes, but you take the good days with the bad, and never forget that a bad day flying is always better than the best at a desk.

Hang on to that feeling as long as you can, and enjoy it while it lasts. After about 3 months, it was just a job to me. I live for my days off. Work is a necessary evil, and I work (fly) to live. While it may not be as bad as some other jobs, I am still there against my will, only out of a need of money, and count the seconds til I"m home and can get back to my real life and doing what I really enjoy - being off work!

If you Love flying, and count the seconds until you're off the clock with a job like this, you can't be happy doing anything!!

AMEN my friend- people like some of the above statements give me the idea that these guys will never be happy doing anything- booohooohooo
Im traveling and away from home-so are traveling salesman hoping to make a sale, and without one they dont even get paid. When you think this job sucks think about all the other people with sh_tier jobs making a whole lot less.
I love most of the pilots out there and have alot of respect for most, but they are the biggest complainers ever. Regional Airlines where never designed to make pilots rich.

It never dies, because when you walk through a terminal and have the ladies staring at you..its great! Not only that when you JS and you sit in the cabin everyone notices you. And you could be flying a CUb for all they know...

By the way we not only work the gate, but the ticket counter, baggage, ramp, and ops.... gotta love cost saving...one person can do it all. Come join the fun!
I do the same, I think its a blast! Nothing better than being insulted by a stuck up passenger at the ticket counter and then see them looking out the window at you holding their luggage As with the bumper sticker however, I'd rather be flying.

I know what you mean. Those ladies keep staring, pointing and smiling at me. It's a big ego trip.

Yes they do, I'm the man, crisp hat, shiny wings, shoes polished to a mirror finish, they can't get enough of me those ladies......

Oh crap, the barn doors open and it's cold outside!

I used to think that way, for the first 3 months. It fades. Give it time.

Cool

I've asked a couple captains out on the line and Ive heard anywhere from 6mos to 1year. But I tell you what, I think if we all lived within our means, and on your days off you actually do something that actually removes you from the job, it wouldnt be as bad as some of you make it, ie: party hard, sports league, fun stuff with the kids & wife, etc.

Me personally i come out of a foster situation growing up in a not so peachy neighborhood 10 mins from JFK. I am very fortunate to even be posting on this website, and to have a job that I love. I think I've run into a little too many who complain about our job a whole lot. Honestly coming where I come out of, I see nothing but happy days ahead, and I hope many of you realize some of the things less fortunate people have to do just to survive.
