Default Q400 Climb Profile

Saw a Colgan Q400 in ORF the other day, and it sparked a debate between my captain and I. He'd heard that the Q400 can outclimb the 145 at low altitudes (up to FL250 or so) and I say no way.
So, for you Horizon and/or Colgan guys and gals, what kind of speed & climb rate are you seeing down low?

when I was at Colgan, I heard the same thing. with pax apparently they have to pull it back pretty far or deal with a very high deck angle. but i was a saab guy and anything could beat us......

We were told in ground school the q400 could out-climb the crj-700 through 10k.

Typical climb between 220-240 at 2000fpm. Yeah, we probably out climb the jets but when we get to 250 you guys are still closer to the hotel.

Ok, I guess not the 700. Is the climb profile of the 145 similar to that of the 700?

But climb rate is not the only thing. What is the speed during climb? The SAAB2000 would outclimb the CRJ. But not really. Different things. Gradient vs. rate.

The CRJ-200 is pathetic, but even it will climb pretty will to 12000-15000 if flown properly.

The SAAB2000 would do pretty well, but would also give up a lot of airspeed to get that rate. Can't do that is the CRJ.

What does the Q400 burn during the climb? That's what's important. It's still one hella aircraft. Another reason so many RJs could easily be dumbed on the market.
