Hey guys,
I am soon going to be starting simulator training for my airline, on the Dash-8. IF I pass the checkride, I may be in the market for a new head-set. I currently have the David Clark 13.4, but was thinking that it would probably be a good idea to get something a little better/more comfortable if I am going to start spending much more time in an airplane. Question is, what headset do you guys suggest I look at? Looking for something not more then around 600$ TOPS, and something that would last me a long time with good guarentee, or warentee. Something comfortable, and that will protect my hearing for the long haul. What do you guys out there, use/recommend? What to stay away from? Thanks for all replies. :) |
Bose X. Flew with a captain the other day, we kept swapping into "loud" planes. He was wearing D.C.'s and kept asking me, "geez, you hear that?" me: "hear what?" him: "you can't hear how loud this plane is, can you." me grinning: "nope."

I own a bose X but did not want anything on my head for 12 hours anymore. I now use a lightspeed Mach 1 and I really like it. Bose is the best on the market by far but I have relegated it to my GA flying.

I usually use my Telex 850s in the CRJ, perfect headset for a jet. For the prop side of things I modified my David Clarks with the comfort kit from Oregon Aero. Cost just over $100 and it feels very nice (once it was adjusted properly, can't be pushing on the jaw bone), but I haven't worn it for long durations yet. I prefer my 850s but the DCs with the kit is much quieter. I knew a C-130 guy in training and he used the comfort kit as well.

QC2's wont cut it at PDT we got an fil saying we cannot use them the FAA frown at them. We are ment to use a headset witha TSO#.
But i use Mach 1 and carry a letter to show the FAA that you still can hear when your battery dies.:D |

I can wear my david clarks all day and they don't get uncomfortable. I have the gel earcups and use earplugs. The earplugs make a huge improvement, just have to turn the audio up a lot.
I had to go back to my stand by pair of DC's for 1 week and it was horrible, feels like a brick is taped to your head. When I got my Bose back it was so nice and made me appreciate them even more. Bose is offering a promotion where you buy the set and they withdraw $82 a month for a year to pay for the headset. No credit check, no interest. So you get a great headset and you do not have to plop a grand down to do it. And their warranty and service is great. Had a problem fed ex'd out and back in 2 days. Who else offers you a payment plan interest free for poor pilots? |
Save your money...what's your longest leg? 1 hour?
