Most airlines are pretty much the same. Some have better things than others. Frankly, in spite of all that, I tried to get into Pinnacle 4 years ago because I wanted MSP. They never invited me to an interview. I would WAY rather live in MSP than be based out east.

Oh well.

Get over it.

Maybe I'm reading your post wrong, but its attitudes like that that are bringing down this industry. "we are treated like crap, others are too but dont do anything about it just bend over and take it." and believe it or not I was welcomed to aviation a Loong time ago when aviation actually was welcoming....

Im not sure about your percentages, the only percentage that has been verified is the 99.39% of guys that think things are bad enough to strike over.

You seem pretty sure about the "new contract" and all the great stuff that will be in it. Last time i heard optimism like that was 2004

The few times you can't?.... How is this not manditory overtime then. Extention Refusals "25% of the time....they work everytime."

Keep humming that tune, until that day the company calls your friendly neigborhood FAA office to self report your a$$ for any number of sketchy things they try to get away with. Then enjoy explaining what happened every time you interview from now to age 65.

again, you are almost painfully unaware of the fact that things may not get much better in the next contract, or the "next contract" may drag out for more years than any new hires projected longevity.

Never take a job based on a "quick upgrade" that may never come, or a "new contract" that may never be worth more than the one before it.

Google "Stockholm Syndrome" It generally sets in about a year after the throws of SJS.

I can only speak for myself. I'm not ****ed off like some guys at Pinnacle. This place could be better. I just go in, fly the airplane, pick up my check and go home. I leave all my work related that's bad at work and don't bring it home and vise versa. I've been on reserve for 5 months. Last month block 78 hrs and credit 103. There's other better regionals out there but i'm fine where I am since I don't commute. I'm not going to tell the guys who are looking for a job at the regionals to come here or not to come here. Oh and I voted yes!

along these lines, I got SOO ****ed at my FO a few weeks ago. 600 hours TT *****ing he has to sit reserve and that he cant pay of his $80,000 prestigious flight school loan. So he is going to declare bankrupcy to get around paying it. I asked him if he did the math before flight school...80,000 loan paid back at 20,000 a year salary...... He asked why I am so concerned, so I said it does concern me...when I want a student loan for myself or my kids I'm going to have to pay more for it cause of punks like you who default because they dont see the big picture. He can brag about buying a new $30,000 car tho, but can't pay back the people who gave him the opportunity for this job.

It's unfortunate that pilots are our own worst enemy. However I do know that, as much as I love aviation, I would not take a ****ty $18/hour airline job just to feed my family. I would find a new career, I am too proud and love flying too much to contribute to this downward spiral caused by shiny jet syndrome, management greed and corporate incompetence, and ME and only ME attitudes I have been experiencing more and more over the recent years.

That irks me as well. I'm just getting ready to get out there and while I am concerned about paying the loans, the thought of declaring bankruptcy never even enters my mind (besides I didn't think you could get out of student loan responsibility by declaring bankruptcy). There seems to be a growing trend in the youth today (yes I'm older than the average college grad) to act without thinking of consequence and expecting to not have to take any responsibility for bad decisions. For the record, someone with character traits like that IS NOT the type of person I want responsible for flying the aircraft that might be flying my family around. A better decision would be to defer those loans for a year or so until he could get on his feet somewhat and then start to pay them back. Yes the interest rate for deferment sucks, but that's life. You take the loan out, you understand that it is your responsibility to pay it back. Let's not screw up the borrowing situation for the future people. Grow up and take some responsibility for your actions.

You're exactly right..........you CANNOT get out of paying your school loans due to declaring bankruptcy. Those loans will follow you your entire life.

Too many college grads were doing this, racking up some huge debt at school, living the good life on student loans, getting their degree, holding off on getting a job, and declaring bankruptcy, wiping out their entire school debt..............until the government caught on to it and put an abrupt end to that practice. Now they follow you to your grave......

Student loans, taxes and medical bills CANNOT be discharged through bankruptcy. In years past they were, but not any more.

In fact, Bush had the bankruptcy law recently changed again so that Chapter 7 (what most personal filings are) became much harder to qualify for (they are structured more like the old chap. 11) and the requirements are more stringent as to what and how your debts will/or if they will be discharged.

At any rate, I don't think I would be able to sleep at night if I had ANY debt beyond a few thousand dollars. Debt is a terrible thing to have.

80K is INSANE!!!!! He must feel like an indentured servant with that loan and his paltry wages.

Obviously he wasn't smart enough to find a better rate on his loans or for flight training. Why would he research where to work?
