But I guess if I were optimistic (which I lost my optimism a long time ago), I would look forward to an upgrade at sometime (IF AA recalled and I still worked there) in about 5 years or so.....maybe.

Remember, AA is trying to stay trim to become/stay profitable and they have an excess of pilots on furlough anyway when you think of the 1000+ TWA pilots that they really don't need. And if they did recall, it will take A LONG time to get 400-500 pilots out of Eagle and up to AA (training bubble and all). Also, if AA did start to bring people back that would mean that they are expanding, and if AA expands in all liklyhood Eagle will shrink (less upgrade opportunity) because AA will be taking their routes back.

As long as eagle is owned by AMR, there is a vague possibility that the flow through might some day become a reality, but it will obviously be a long time in coming if ever.

Thanks to all that posted, it's funny that I asked about retirement when I haven't even finished up my Private Cert. I'll still have to go through all the training (AirSafety Academy in AZ) then learn the ropes as an instructor for them and fine tune the basics of aviation. I say optimistically that I could look for airline employment in 2.5-3 years tops, that is if the regionals don't raise the hiring mins. to 2500TT or something crazy like that. Guess I'd be instructing for a little longer in that case. I don't have the SJS that I have been reading about on this forum. I love aviation, heck I joined up with the Air Force at 18 to work with nuclear weapons then graduated at Embry Riddle last year with my B.S. Personally, I wish to become the most competent, and reliable pilot possible, and perhaps in the end earn a decent living. Anyway, I seperate from the Air Force next year and will start at AirSafety shortly thereafter. I'll I can do is continue to keep a pulse on the industry from this forum and all the experience everyone has to share. I understand what I'm getting into and it sounds like a challenge, and a big risk. It's a risk that I'm willing to take to one day get on the intercom and say, "Thanks for flying with XXXXAirlines, sit back and enjoy the flight!"

By the way I'm studying for my checkride as we speak, wish me luck. The examiner at the Aero Club is a former Marine pilot and Army helo driver, so he knows a thing or to, and he makes me feel like I don't know s#@t. Well, maybe I don't yet.

Remember that just because you love flying doesn't mean that flying will love you back. These days flying is more like an angry girl friend who sleeps with everyone but you and leaves when the money is gone and just before the police show up.

Nice one Skyhigh! Almost as good as your "a crack habit is better than a career in aviation" posts
I know you've been slapped around by that b!t*h named aviation and your presence here is a nice dose of reality.

Some people have suggested that XJT will keep them and just do other flying for another major or they will get rid of them (which sucks for the pilots). Either way, I say apply everywhere, interview everywhere cause you never know
