Am I to understant that you are the first individual to graduate from High School or earned a BS in Aeronautical Studies? Lots of people, men, women, blacks, whites, Christians, Jews, Asians, etc., have earned college degrees and higher. I have to. Shoudn't that make me special and more entitled to jobs over every one else?
I am curious... am I to understand that it is your precept that it is up to standard for those more qualified for certain positions to be passed over for employment by those individuals less qualified for the same position? It is 2006, and I don't understand the justification for such discrimination in today's market. If not then... what's your point atpwannabe?
I still say, "Let affirmative action, a disservice to unqualified minorities, and qualified individuals alike, enjoy a long death."

Affirmative action was intended to level the playing field. It hasn't. In order for it to "die the death," minorites and women are going to have to be given equal footing in all sectors of life as we know it here in America. Attitudes will have to change.
Now, enough of this history and civics lesson, let's get back to aviation.

I'm all for women pilots. Their voices on the radio can be a welcome change from the male dominant voice. If they're qualified to fly the plane safely, fabulous. If they get there because they got a nice pair of lips, well, that's been going on since they invented booze and it's not going to change.

Affirmative action is total crap...it perpuates a divisive environment between those who earned it and those who got it anyway. It is ludicrious to expect that the earners will have no resentment towards the non-earners.
The root causes need to be addressed, not the symptoms.
I think the root cause was addressed for my generation...I learned in grade school about the negative aspects of racism, and have always treated people as individuals. This was in the 1970's, in the south too.

Can we talk about religion next? Just kidding. I don't think affirmative action is going to be disappearing any time soon. We all know what's going on present day, but the government will be happy to sit on it and pretend it was a part of the original constitution. After all, look how long it's taking the FAA to update those questions on their written exams? What the hell is the color of 80 octane? (I'm being sarcastic here...kinda.) LOL.

All affirmative action is something that lets minorities play the race card. And no offence but you notice it always the minorities bringing up race and how they had it harder. If they get fired or not hired its because they arent white. That's what employers are worried about and thats why affirmative action is crap.
