I just went to the Mesa Air web site and I found this on the front page and started laughing...
So if you’re looking for great, friendly service or you’re keen to work in a fun, professional environment with the best in the business, we’d love to welcome you to Mesa, ATW Regional Airline of the Year 2005.

They can't make you share a hotel room that you're paying for, but most do so that they can reduce the cost.
They also don't pay you until you get past a certain point. I'm sure that others can add more, I'm just repeating info from a friend of mine who was there for a year but has now been at SKW for almost 10 months now.

You get on the payroll after 2 weeks. Ex/ hired on 7/13, first check (depending on how you hit it) by the end of the month. That's how it worked for me, and has been working.

It's sad that companies expect a professional to work for free or for pathetic wages (SKW as well as every other airline including most all Legacies, Nationals & Majors) until their trained or partially trained. I don't know of many other industries that do this. It, as well as many other things, is downright criminal and disrespectfull.

"Is it true they make you pay for your own hotel during training and its' shared?"
Trainees are provided a single-occupancy hotel room, or a single-ocupancy room in a 3 or 4 bedroom, 2 bath house. Trainees are paid 70 hours per month at the year 1 CRJ FO rate.

Yes, you are correct, for awhile they did have to provide their own housing while going through training. Today, as the venerable Bruce Morey has stated, all newhire FOs are provided housing over at Willie Gateway. It is better than nothing and the accomodations there are plush compared to the luxurious Del Rio in Mesa...w/ fine dining/beverages provided from Groggys across the street.
