Are you kidding?

Air Kannah and the rest of the international flights bone up simple instructions there every night. I have to give it to the controllers for being as patient as they are.

Welcome to New York.

I don't think it's "to be fair." It's more like you playing devil's advocate, but having said that...how would you suggest he say things? The controller has a job to do. His job is not to provide Air China separation. It's to provide EVERYONE separation, and when you have to repeat things five times.....we have a big problem. JFK gets busy, man.

To be fair...are there even any standard ICAO phrases for what the ground controller was asking? Controllers don't usually have to ask..they do more telling. I guess he should have said "contact ramp tower on 1XX.XX?"

I heard it was because the rat from earlier in the day took a dump on the runway, and with the rain it got smeared all over the asphalt, creating a breaking action report of "NIL".

To be fair if your behind the controls of an 800,000lb aircraft you need to completely understand the international language of aviation.....ENGLISH. I cant tell you how many times I've heard them and other foreign airlines at JFK botch instructions both on the ground and in the air because their English was marginal. Yes we all screw up instructions now and again but its chronic with some of those carriers.
Oh and remember last year when that Air China 74 and the Delta 76 had a little collision on the ramp at JFK? It ripped the winglet off the left wing of the 74 and torqued the end of the wing under in a curl with just hanging shards of metal. They flew that thing back and forth between China and the US for a week like that before it was finally grounded.

That's why they all park at the Idiot terminal (aka International Terminal)

This happened again between an AirChina 74 and a Freedom E145 a few weeks ago.

Except that is not how it works in JFK. You have to stay on ground till the ramp clears you in (you should be talking to ramp on the other radio)...since most of the ramps are dead-ends (only one way in and out) and they down want you blocking A or B taxi ways for more than a minute or so. If the ramp is blocked ground will move you someplace where your not in the way.

I heard that recorded exchange take place...we were cracking up
