Good point. A few guys from my former job that never got to upgrade before they went under went to work as street CA's at a certain 1900 operator in FL. As much as it sucked, as little as it payed, as stressful as it was being a passive B1900 flight instructor, it paid off for them.

They are now at FedEx and SW.

And yes, they all had in's/contacts that helped them get their jobs, just like everybody else. But by sucking it up, it got them the required experience to able to apply for the job.

I know several from that same S. FL operator that went to North American, CAL, and a fractional.

Eligible is the word of the day. Have a friend there who has been eligible for quite some time...still flying as an F/O. Just be cautious--nothing is always as good as it seems.

Are you suggesting we have merit based upgrade? That cannot be farther from the truth. When you meet the mins, you submit the bid and if you senior enough to hold it, you are awarded it. Also none of our upgrade classes have been filled for at least 18 months. If you bid it you will get it. There have been plenty of FOs that have upgraded within 6 months and Lakes cannot prevent you from bidding it.

PM me. I'm interested in your friends story.

If you look at the PIC mins at a lot of good places (FedEx, SW, et. al.) - you'll see they are pretty high.

PIC is gold. At Eagle I'm looking at an 8 to 9 year upgrade right now. No hope for PIC in a loooooong time.

The places you listed, as well as UPS have a min of 1000 turbine PIC. Do you consider that to be high?

If you want to talk "competitive", that's a whole different deal. Like I said, the guys I knew all had an "in" when they got hired. But you at least have to have the mins to fill out the app. After that's it's all on you to get the job.

But 1000 PIC as a min is not high.

It is high when you look at the 8 to 9 year upgrade that I'm looking at. Which is why I'm saying its worth it in some respects to get the left seat as quickly as possible.

Granted I already have 600 PIC, but some places that I've seen want that PIC in turbine aircraft.
