As far as the washout rate goes, there has been concern about that for at least the last 6 months. Let me assure you, the training department is essentially the same as it has been for the last four years, if not since its inception. The new hires today are expected to do the same things as everyone else who has been hired here. Frankly, I think that many of the washes didn't take the training as seriously as they should have. And now that we are getting higher time and experienced candidates, the pass rate will increase.
For those of you who want to apply, do it. Don't let the fear of failure stop you. Either you can do it or you are not quite ready. Be honest with yourself. Just don't think that we suddenly are looking to wash pilots we hired at the time we need them most. Lakes still has the same standards.

What professional pilot would accept the flight?
Or does the scenario assume everything was OK when you left, then the weather gets worse and stuff starts to break in route, and you decide to "press on" to the destination?

What airline would dispatch to an airport below mins with forecast icing, mechanical deferrals, and no alternate fuel?

Dispatch to an airport below mins AND no alternate fuel.... no airline would do that because IT'S ILLEGAL!! And you're right, no profesional (smart) pilot would except that release. However, it's called scenario based traning and to see you under pressure.
Icing is real world,
Mechanical deferals (MEL's) are real world,
And equipment breaking is real world,
Welcome to the airlines.

I received confirmation from my buddy. They set you up on a normal flight you go missed from intended airport then it drops below IFR mins. Next your diverted to alternate and thats when the Sh** hits the fan.
The Air Force used to do this to evaluate how you balanced each problem and the order of importance you put them in. Well thats the skinny on it.
