ARJ21 First Flight
#21
Yeah if you go to the news site that's linked and click on the hyperlink to the ARJ21-700 aircraft info, it talks about the design. Quote:
"The ARJ 21 is built using tooling provided by McDonnell Douglas for licenses production of the MD-90. The ARJ21 has a strong resemblance to the DC-9 series aircraft with identical nose profile and cabin cross-section."
So there you go. They aren't ashamed at all. DC-9 on the outside and in the cabin, CRJ in the cockpit and on the engine pylons....

I know, geez. Why do all the people posting think that a company shouldn't call a plane their own, new design when they piece together a bunch of different components from other airplanes. Its not like China has rules against this or anything.
I think I will go vomit too.

IIRC, the ARJ21 was designed for a specific domestic flying niche in china. I don't think it will even be certified by the FAA/JAA...so we probably won't see it in mesa colors (unless you go to china).

The wing is Russian, the engines are American (GE CF34-10A, used on EMB190/195s).
And how original: ARJ-21: Asian Regional Jet, 21st century.
Even though the fuselage dates back to the 50s and the engines to the 80s.
Whatever, China.

I can only think of how the "performance" would be, with underpowered engines on a DC9 body....sounds SLOW.
