It's Official....ASA Furloughs

You must be new to the industry. The union can't put that in writing or they get sued. Look at UAL, AMR and DAL as poster children for having tried that.
Why won't it help? By avoiding open time you force the company to either cancel flights or retain pilots. If you are a Captain or FO is immaterial. Any open time not picked up as a Captain could bring back a Captain who was displaced to FO and then his vacancy is filled by a furloughee.
I hated seeing guys pad their pockets with greenslips when I was furloughed. The furloughed guys are taking a 100% cut so for anyone to pick up open time for a few extra hours is pathetic.

In the meantime, off to get another beer, this just sucks...

What's BS about this is I was just on the phone yesterday with ALPA and later asked them about ASA furloughs since I had them on the phone. They told me it has been quiet since the 900 memo. So either ALPA didn't know about this and was also side swiped OR I was lied to by ASA's ALPA rep.
You were lied to. This MEC is either grossly incompetent or could give two ****s about the guys with three stripes on their shoulders.
And anyone picking up open time after Feb 9 is scum.

Sorry to hear this, brothers. We're up to 298 at Comair.
Apparently, there are a bunch of senior Comair captains picking up open time, some even bragging about it. Complete disregard. Hopefully that won't happen at ASA.
The new president even praised the aholes for it in a memo on the company intranet "Many team members worked extra hours, dealt with IROP situations, picked up extra flights and went the extra mile"
Pilots that pick up open time with brothers on the street are one small step above scabs.
Keep your spirits up, do your job and NOTHING more.

As one of the ones furloughed I'd like to say thanks for the support. I am just kinda on the fence about the company right now. There will always be some trips on open time. Now if Open time goes up a ton and average line values break 75hrs then I will feel shorted out. But untill that happens, lets not bite at one another because we haven't seen it yet. Again thanks for the support... I'll be back, not going to give up my number at ASA for anything then a major, it's just not worth it. Good time to finish my degree anyways.
