I'm really sorry to hear about the furloughs. I guess all we can do is let things play out in the next couple of years, sooner or later the majors will have enough attrition due to retirements and we'll get things moving again. We have about 300+ out on the street here at XJT and I'd sure like to see those guys back on property. Best of luck.

Now if the union sent a memo saying to avoid it, maybe that would be something, but they won't.
And sorry to hear about it for all of you. I hope it doesn't last as long as they think it will.
This statement is spot on. I feel that with this furlough there will be more open time to pick up and all the senior guys will be elated! Many come right out and say that we need to furlough because they can't get any open time. They over extend themselves financially and need 1200 hours of credit to survive. What we need is some better pilot unity across ALL of the DCI carriers. Originally Posted by John Pennekamp

I feel like the union has dropped the ball on this one. 80 furloughs is BS. WE SPEND TENS OF MILLIONS HAVING TWO MANAGEMENTS. But still ASA furloughs to save a few million.
What's BS about this is I was just on the phone yesterday with ALPA and later asked them about ASA furloughs since I had them on the phone. They told me it has been quiet since the 900 memo. So either ALPA didn't know about this and was also side swiped OR I was lied to by ASA's ALPA rep.

And they didn't award everyone COMAs that put in for one.Originally Posted by flyingkangaroo

I doubt anyone over there lied to you. Having said that, I doubt they didn't know when or how many at least a few days ago. Believe it or not, there are things that happen between the GO and the MEC office that you might not fully understand or be privy to. But that doesn't mean that they're all trying to do the best thing for you they could.Originally Posted by daniel0265

What are you talking about? They're gaining 10 a/c for one year then they lose 20. Why would anyone think that anyone would furlough.....bring them back.........and furlough again? If ASA hadn't received these 10 CR9's more than 80 would have been furloughed and in 2010 if flying doesn't pick up more will join the original 80. Don't take offense to my posting, I'm just stating the facts.Originally Posted by mxav8r
Like that matters. Do you really think ASA is going to furlough these guys for the most of 2009 and then call them back. Just to furlough them AGAIN in 2010?
I hope that ASA can find a home for those 20 a/c slated for removal in 2010 plus that they can find away to increase their currently flying and recall all who are furloughed.
Good luck all.
This blows.....sorry to the furloughees...

This OT and JM issue can get really ugly when there are guys on the street. Over at Spirit, the union made stickers with all the OT and LM wh0r&$ names on it for people to put on their flight bags.

You must be new to the industry. The union can't put that in writing or they get sued. Look at UAL, AMR and DAL as poster children for having tried that. Originally Posted by John Pennekamp

Why won't it help? By avoiding open time you force the company to either cancel flights or retain pilots. If you are a Captain or FO is immaterial. Any open time not picked up as a Captain could bring back a Captain who was displaced to FO and then his vacancy is filled by a furloughee.
I hated seeing guys pad their pockets with greenslips when I was furloughed. The furloughed guys are taking a 100% cut so for anyone to pick up open time for a few extra hours is pathetic.
