So here's a senario...

You are rebuilding your line due to vacation. Who's going to be the judge and jury, when you pick up time from line completion/opentime. Or swapping trips for an addtional couple hours of credit.

You cannot predict how many of your requests for line completion will be successful. Maybe you get a few too many requests granted and make 90 credit...

How about a change in training. You lost credit and need to rebuild your line. Making a list of people that pickup opentime is just a one-sided story and irresponsible.

Your going to make everyone explain themselves? Hopefully not... How about, just try not to take advantage of the people on the street. And, do the best you can.

If reserves are being flown over guarantee (which they aren't) and they're getting paid over-block, then avoiding open time will have 'some' affect. If the company was malicious in furloughing, as in they're running thin and wish to have some affect on negotiations (there aren't any), avoiding open time would have probably have 'some' affect. Since neither of those are the case, avoiding open time will have very little affect. Blame it on Bush, blame it on the Democrats, blame it on yourselves. Puff your chest, yell as loud as you can, do what you think helps, you can even call me a managment hack if it makes you feel better, but it does not change the situation.

Help the fourloughs, the company and yourselves by doing everything you can to minimize costs and position us for new opportunities. And hope like hell fuel costs don't go up again 'cause if they do, in this environment, more folks are going to get furloughed.
Excellent post. Everyone has to do the best they can with the situation they find themselves in. It's hard to ding someone picking up open time or the furloughees taking the GoJet job.

I've heard one or two furloughees may be trying the ATC route - and I've heard they've upped the age to 36?

Yup! My buddy (one of they 80) applied for one in the Seattle area. Said that the they only asked for prior ATC experience and/or CFII. I think it was as clearance.

2nd of all, this from the same guy that caused all hell on what did you call it?? "Delta screwed ASA again....?" I can say the same about you, you knew the DCI shuffle when you joined ASA. If not, no one is making you stay. Yet you complained page after page even after we got furloughed. Almost seems like all you care about is yourself.

Last if you want to hang that COBRA donations over our heads... KEEP IT! There are plenty of other ASA pilots that are willing to help us out. I don't need your help if it has a price tag on it. I assume you are a CA and you make more then all the FO and FA and yet they are willing to help and not hang it over our heads.

You are right, the conversation here can be illegal if it is organizing a sit out on open time. (Courts found in favor of I think it was United when this was done on E-mails and public forums. The pilots/union got slammed) But it is legal for people to say what THEY intend to do and why. Don't go blindly attacking everyone to get a message across. Use some tact.
Since the moderator deleted my response (but not your attacks), I guess you can say whatever you want. But your opinion will be much more valuable when you can sign your name to your disparaging comments about your fellow pilots. Have a good life.

My "disparaging comments about your fellow pilots" ???? (Wow... so other then me pointing out ONE thing that you said was incorrect, one this that was insulting to ALL the guys who are furloughed and that the COBRA fund is a donation and not a IOU......... what was it that I said about my fellow pilots????)

Look man, you need to read what I said again because I didn't say anything about any other pilots. Just you and it wasn't even an attack, it was me pointing out that you are blaming the wrong people about the name calling. Also the comment about "you came to ASA you should expect furlough" and how messed up that is to say.

I'm not in this to fight with my co-workers (you included). If you meant what you said on the APLA board then I can respect your opinion but it was VERY different then what you said on APC. Your comment on APC made it sound like your COBRA donation has a price tag on it. I never said you are wrong on the open time issue, just that you have a poor way in making a statement and you blamed the wrong people for a remark.

As far as my name is concerned... READ MY SCREEN NAME... that's a hint and a half!

Let's just drop this........ I am endebted to the guys/girls in my training class and the classes ahead of us. Many people from other classes spent hours with us to help us out in what was ahead in training. Even on the line, there was never an CA/FO that didn't help me out when I asked. So, if able, I hope to kick back a few bucks a month to the COBRA fund for the other 79. I have made many friends at ASA and the lower half of the furloughed group. Some used to be co-workers of mine when I was a CFI. Some are in desperate need for some help, others will do alright. I want to help them out if I can, I would hate to see anyone give up the career due to a furlough. We all chose aviation because... well there is no better rush then sitting up there at FL340 while your buddies from HS/college/military are in a cubical. I hope this helps you better understand where I am coming from. If not, then I'm sorry we both have very different mindsets and just need to walk away from this issue.

Best of luck,
Daniel

Someone should get a big slice of cheese, and place it in the crew room in a nice see through tupperware container with the note:

Please do not eat,
