The Saabs at Mesaba are all limited to flap 20 landings. It had to do with nasty habits in the A models (that we got rid of in 2007) while configuring for landing in ice. They decided to standardize the whole fleet to a flap 20 landing to take care of the problems since we never had gone anywhere that it would matter before.

HHH really isn't that hard to land in. In the dash we usually do it flaps 15 and 1050 on the condition levers. Not even worth doing flaps 35 unless we take the 300 in.

Sounds like a perfect market for a Dash 8/Q400...then you could really get out of there with some people and their bags!

Maybe with the added power but with the 300, I have taken 80% capacity in but less than 50% out. We should just keep the 100 on that route.

I was told the Q400 would clip the Trees/Fence on taxi back to the ramp,Runway would not be very limiting.
HHH is really a none event.

its a non-event on a good day. Throw in some strong shear and its a real b*tch. And how bout trying to land on the loc 21 with a 20kt tailwind when its too low to circle. o yea, real easy..

From the overhead photos...looks like the Q400 would be able to manuver around with no real issues...but it's been 4/5 years since I've flown into HXD.

The Q400 wouldn't have much issue going in and out.

Speaking of that.....one of our ground ops guys down there was telling me that C-130's come in and do T&G's there. That would be sweet to see!!

If you have time at the end of your sim period, try a V1 cut at Dutch Harbor/3900' at 29000# Flaps15, negative Autocoarsen.
