You are correct sir! The problem is that the company has created a method to get around the contract in this area but using 'red arrows' and not declaring them restricted. Not saying they can or will, but if the company wants to furlough again, they will find a way to do it.

Haha, yeah, they'll just give us mandatory extended time off w/o pay and call it an "orange line month" or something. Hey, as long as it's not called "furlough" it'll be fine.

Actually, that base is covered. The company can't force a pilot into a COMA line.

Back-up plans don't work terribly well with 10% unemployment. And I'm sorry, this career (or any other for that matter) should not require a side job just to get by. Just sayin!

everyone thinks they have a back up plan until they get furloughed into this economy and realize how impossible it is to get any decent job, let alone a flying one.

is there any truth to the rumor that senior ASA pilots were b*tching again before this round of furloughs about how they won't be making any money come the fall with reduced line values?

I hope they weren't

I heard that one today as well......

You have to look at it from their perspective. Albeit this is not the right time, nor the right candor, to bring up something like this; All they know is their lifestyle and if ASA is going to Furlough, it should ' bring staffing levels to where they are a prosperous and competitive ' as the company put it, and not so that we're STILL struggling when those who are furloughed hit the street. My heart goes out to all who are furloughed, I feel for you, and hope it turns around soon.

Remember that we haven’t furloughed yet and the company seems to be more willing to take risks with our pilot group in an effort to keep moral high and remain non-union/Pro-Jerry. Once again, a double standard.

Exactly! Gains for Skywest management...not their line pilots.

agree to disagree on this. I cant see it from their perspective, especially from some of the burned out, surly lifers we have. If you are near the top or maxing out our payscale, especially on the 70/90, why would you NOT rather see line values reduced if it meant people could remain employed?!

This is a fundamental problem with pilot groups, unions and our entire profession to an extent. It's "hooray for me and to hell with you, you probably didn't deserve the job anyway." I would bet that if this is true, these people have not been furloughed and have not had to work some dog $*** job just to scrape by til recall.

You want to talk management not being as employee friendly as they'd like you to think? Fine. Skywest conspiracy? I'm game to discuss. But when you have the possibility of fellow pilots pushing for furloughs for personal gains its purely disgusting
