Yeah, I wasn't counting on that course really getting me anything except some CRJ experience (and more debt).
When an airline like AWAC looks at a resume, what do they like to see? Would they hire or interview someone in my situation? Would getting some FTD time help my situation? Thanks |

I wouldnt waste the money on it unless, there's a sim eval during the interview process. If there isn't, hold off until given a class date. When you saddle up the FTD, it'll feel funny at first but after 2-3 approaches you'll find its like riding a bike. |
I was reading some old gouge and it mentioned a sim eval. That could've changed though.
Thanks |

I went through AWAC training several years ago. In my class, 4 people were washed/fired/asked to leave. One was a senior CAPT at Independence Air (attitude), one was a Comair furloughee that got snippy with HR people, one was a low hour pilot, and the last was a criminal issue.
I came from another regional and was current/qual'd on the CRJ-200 at the time. The training was fast, and not geared for new folks. It was adequate, but not as in depth as my first airline. AWAC (at the time) didn't teach the FMS until you were in the sim. I was told the training software was too expensive and not easily justified. That was what the training folks told me when I showed them the software I had from a previous employer. I wondered how much sim time (@ $600/hr) was wasted teaching the FMS. Maybe that was too much for some. The major theme I saw was to be flexible, a team player, and act 'happy to be there' no matter how much of a power trip the sim instructor is on, or seems to be on in my case. The instructor that was a hard nose in the sim was happy to see me a year plus later in a crew van. We talked like old friends, and I had thought I angered him during my training. In retrospect, I think the training staff were testing us folks. The old Indy Air CAPT didn't bite his tongue long enough I guess. Life was much better when I got to the line, YMMV. Good Luck. |
I'm not really one to get an attitude or get a big head over things. When someone is teaching me something I will listen and absorb as much as I can.
I guess I just want to jump back in as prepared as possible but I don't think I will know that until I actually do it. I think I'm going to get together with a buddy of mine who has access to a sim and knock out some approaches and do an IPC. Ken |
