That wording sounds entirely too weird.... There is more to it. We all know it never truely is black and white. ASA management seems entirely TOO smart to allow their pilots to continue to gain LONGEVITY while on furlough. I do not believe there is ONE single airline out there that does that, so ASA would be a first. As a former furlough, I had to come back and work three months before I recieved my 2nd year pay. I was on property for 9 months, thus my LONGEVITY stopped at 9 months... Then when called back I had an, "Adjusted New hire date" in which all my furture payraises were based off of. It so happen to be exactly 90 days from the date of my recall....
Seniority is a given I believe at most. As long as your contract does not say you only have recall rights for a set amount of time. Then I believe if that time expires the company can do whatever they wish... Again I do not believe there are many of these out there any more.... I would contact your furlough rep or local union status rep and get an answer... The INTENT of a contract is something a lot of line pilots simply do not know... Only the few whom negotiated the contract seem to TRUELY know what the intent behind a lot of the BS is...

Actually, Delta Does. When we merged, all the NW guys who were out on furlough post 9-11 went from 1st or 2nd year pay to 4th or 5th year pay when the JCBA went into effect.
As far as I know, we're the only (other, if ASA does,) airline that does that, though.
Reading the fine print, though, the "pay in lieu of notice" sounds like furlough pay (you're on furloughed but getting paid for a set period - kinda like severance pay.) So I would interpret it as you only accrue longevity while being paid - but I would definately ask a rep for clarification.

When you are furloughed you are worthless to the company, you don't work for them. Why would they give you longevity? The only thing that connects you to them is the seniority number you keep. When I was given my recall notice the CP said that I would even be under probation since I was furloughed before the 12 months.
