A little over 2 years at Skywest. I only have only moved up 3 numbers (from the bottom) in the past year and a half.

coming up near 5 years at Comair, spent first 2 on reserve, then a line for about a year, then back to reserve, and now back to a line.

Total 3 out of 5 years on reserve...all as an FO

Pay raises as a CFI are much bigger and you can change jobs and start at a higher salary unlike airline jobs. You can also job hunt and command a higher salary. As a highly respected regional airline professional you have your big $1.25 raises every year to look forward to. Want to jump ship for a better job? Or your company lost their planes to a company that contracts out for the same routes you use to fly? Welcome back to year one pay ($18,000).

I guess you guys do not get it. Be forewarned, I am going to be a condescending prick for a second here.

I am so lucky, I am building longevity at a crappy regional airline (they are all crappy). I sit around 1,000 miles from my house, my dog and my family and watch TV and eat. Wait, I thought I signed up to fly airplanes? I am lucky if I am home 10 days a month. This is so enjoyable, I hope I get to do this for 5 years straight. I am happy though, I am building longevity. Longevity is so important to me because I am going to be furloughed in 6 months and will probably not get called back for 3 years. At least my job is enjoyable and I am building longevity. Did I lay on the sarcasm a little too thick?

Whether your an FO or Captain and on reserve should be noted as well, some of these times are misleading...

1 year XE then Furlough,
1 year XJ then Furlough,
I have a feeling I will be a career reservist.

I would like it if future contract negotiations worked to make reserve more desirable. Thus getting senior people who live in base to possibly bid it.

We have a few here that do that in both seats.
