i asked the same question and they told me they were gonna send me to DFW because it was a quick and easy process (it was). i live close to both so i didn't mind.

by the way if anyone is curious what the bases/equip were for the 4/11 class they were as follows

5 DFW EMJ
10 MIA EMJ
1 LGA CRJ
5 ORD CRJ
8 SJU ATR

... youngest to take a jet was 24.

keep in mind this means nothing about what will be available for the next class but i thought i'd help you out if you were curious ;)

Also if you want a jet and end up in an ATR there is only a 1 yr seat lock then you can transition. Once you get a Jet Slot you are locked until you Upgrade so choose wisely.

So does that mean that once you go to the jet, you are stuck on the ERJ or CRJ until you upgrade? What if an ATR captain slot opens before the jet captain slot. What then?

If you get the ERJ or CRJ you are stuck in that airframe as an FO ONLY unless you are displaced (ie base closes, or they start furloughing and you can't hold your base/equipment anymore) or upgrade. If you bid appropriately, you will get the first available upgrade REGARDLESS of equipment.

Honestly, if I were a new(er) hire, I'd bid the ATR. It's a ton of fun to fly, you will get senior, quickly...and then you can pick and choose where you go after your year is up.

Just my advice.

(If you're on the jet and you DON'T want the ATR when you upgrade...you simply omit any ATR captain positions from your standing bids)

As a FO you can go to any CA slot available. But, the company will not let you bid backwards unless you are displaced or force back to the FO seat from a CA seat. FO jet to FO prop is considered bidding backwards.

Thanks for the info. Why doesn't AE allow you to leave the jet for the prop?

To save on training cycles.

Its called not having tunnel vision as lots of you regional guys do. You think this is the only way to mainline. Consider other jobs besides the regional biz... set goals for yourself i.e. 1000 hrs of turbine PIC for starters.

No, I gotta go with the others and believe you to be a disgruntled rejectee.

Maybe not. Maybe he's a pilot for these guys. I'm told job satisfaction at this place is through the roof.
