Anyone feel like Eagle's jobs are in great threat with yesterdays news? Eagle's contract is up in 2013. AA can feed themselves with JetBlue. Much more cost effective 'per seat, per mile' in an Emb-190 vs. an Emb-135.
Seems like AA might do what Delta did to Comair...(plus I am sorry AA, your in a bad position too. Not sure whos worst off in the future. Blue Chicken or Big Bird)
Eagle the next Comair? Anyone?

That's always a risk for any regional, but probably not realistic for eagle...since AMR owns them, they would still have to make lease payments on parked airplanes including a bunch of worthless 50-seaters.

Anything is possible, and I would hate to see so many guys loose their job.

Eagle will definately be smaller in the future as another regional and JB will be eating more off their plate. My guess is that 5 years from now, Eagle will have at least the 47 CRJ's, half the 145's, maybe a few 140's, NO 135's and 20 or so ATR's.
About 60-65% of current size.
The remainder will be done by CHQ and possibly a third regional with JB's relationship with AA expanded as currently threatened, although a lot of their flying will replace S-80 ops which will shrink substantially.
Eagle will still have somewhere between 1500 and 2000 pilots.

Agreed
AMR isn't stupid although they make some questionable decisions at times. Executive's certificate if Eagle is ever sold would kill AA's South American flying. Eagle will be around past 2013 don't feed into the hype.... (just my 2 c)

Those 190s would do a lot better job than the 135's, that's for sure. If oil goes back up, which it might based on some predictions, the little jet market is in for a hurting.
Is it even worth AMR replacing the 135/140 fleet? Wouldn't it be cheaper to just throw JB 190's on the routes?
I think Eagle will inevitably shrink because it's just so big for a "regional".
I hope this doesn't hurt Eagles existence after 2012 but it is peculiar that this deal springs up 2 years before contract time and after a failed divesture of AE.
This whole thing is getting really hyped up though. Of course I'm downplaying it so I can sleep tonight
