If you just list for the jumpseat and have non rev privliges, if you look on your jumpseat request it has flowback priority of S3C. I always just list for the jumpseat and flow back when theres a seat. I do still make it a point to introduce myself as a jumpseater to the captain and explain they gave me a seat in the back in case there is any confusion in the pax count.

List for the jumpseat and then check in for the non rev... that wasn't so hard was it?

Can't do that on mainline.

It's a craps shoot, man. If you skip the j/s and NR (as you did) you risk not getting a seat while an OAL goes. If you sign up for the j/s and skip the NR, then you could get bumped by a last minute DAL guy while a buddy pass gets "your" seat. Bottom line: commuting sucks when you have to rely on a carrier you don't work for. Move to domicile if you can. I commuted for 5 years, then finally threw in the towel.

Thought that the kids had to ride with the parents to get the enhanced pass clasification, if not they fell back to the F5/Y5 with the parents DOH.

Unfortunately you got owned by the system on this one, If it's close I tend to just sign up for the jumpseat ( if i'm the only one there ) and then you've at least got the opportunity to flow back to an open seat. I wouldn't let a gate agent dictate how my Stratagem would play itself out....

Moved to domicile. Displaced and back to commuting. Moving to domicile is not a guarantee unless you work for a legacy. But that isn't a sure thing either. Note: TWA, Pan Am, Eastern.

Good point.

I agree that it's up to the agent. I frequently "activate" as a NR, then request the j/s, most of the time they don't notice. Then just take whichever you get. Occasionally, though you'll get a Gate Nazi who says something, then you just have to roll the dice.

"...It kind of sucks too that I was bumped off the flight by retirees/parents."

Yes, this is a real pain, especially when trying to commute or going somewhere on vacation. It would be nice to follow something similar to that of the space-a program the military currently uses for boarding priorites.. doesn't matter if one is Active AF, Army, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard, if you are active, you go at a higher priority, Cat III. Even if it is an AF aircraft and you are a Marine, that doesn't matter. (I don't think sign-up time within each of the 6 catergories would not receive a positive feedback on the commercial side). Retirees, Guard/Reserve traditional members go as Cat VI.

Example and wishful thinking:
SA1: Company Business; Emergency travel
SA2: Still remain - everyone receives 6/year
SA3: Ordinary travel for all ACTIVE, to include DCI, regardless of affiliation. DoH for everyone.
S3B: Retirees and Parents
SA4: Companion Pass Riders
SA5: OAL / others
or

SA3: Ordinary travel for all ACTIVE mainline
S3B: Active DCI, regardless of affiliation.
S3C: Retirees and Parents.
