It's no different than randomly searching people walking down a sidewalk or randomly searching cars at a checkpoint on the highway.
So you are against random DUI checkpoints (to better protect the general population using the roads), metal detectors in courthouses (to better protect those battered spouses during a trial), or random spot checks of inmates cellblocks (to better protect the Corrections Officer's safety)?

In a few of these examples you could argue that said person has given up their rights, though others would argue that you can't be stripped of certain rights.

Safety seems to be the most common reason given for any many infringements; a cause for a greater good.

You've given ONE definition of 'unreasonable', and a good one in your mind. But that is the exact problem that I highlighted in my post. There isn't just one definition and it is ever changing.

Tough nut to crack no doubt.

I got the same treatment in ELP. I didn't want to go through the scanner machine - "opted out", and immediately raised suspicion amongst TSA pogues. I was instructed to go through the normal metal dectector (no alarms set off), then a pat-down. I requested a private area for this (I'm not a fan of looking like an idiot in front of the 142 pax I'm about to fly to ATL). Five, that's five, TSA screeners accompany me to private room. Swab down my belongings with cotton pads and rubber gloves. I was patted down with the back of a hand - butt, crotch, legs, small of back. I was asked what the lump was in my back pocket (my wallet). I was told to remove it and some slack-jawed kid covered in tattoos proceeds to rifle through my cash, pictures, credit cards, etc. Here's where I lost it - felt my head about to explode and I let him have it with both barrels. Guess I'm lucky(?) this didn't turn into an incident. That kid probably won't do that again to another pilot.
All in all, this was humiliating, frustrating, and complete b.s. But the question is, what can we do about it? Until ALPA grows a pair, I guess this will be the new normal.

This dude did a great job of digging a hole and making himself look like really bad on CNN this morning. Using terms like "TSA having their way with me" and "assult" and finally at the end (as they're trying to end the interview... and he would not stop talking) he proudly says "My wife and I are really having a great time with this." The interviewer tries to take the shovel out of his hand, yet the dude grabs it back and starts digging further! The show'shosts were even laughing about the guy later "having fun with this". This guy really makes all of us professionals look like a bunch of primadonnas.

This whole thing kinda reminds me of an episode of Family Guy, where Peter sues his doctor for rape, after getting a prostate exam.

I don't go through the advanced screening, but I won't refuse a patdown. Yeah it sucks, but I'm no more special than the next guy/gal. I'd love crewpass, but in the meantime, I play by the rules that are set. I guess if I decide its not worth it, then I'll get out... which is what this guy did. Too bad he's going about it in a way that might just shut him out from coming back. After watching the interview, I'm not so impressed.

I can't believe what I just witnessed on CNN you know Michael at first I supported your cause. I agree, things have gone a bit to far when it comes to Airport Security etc etc etc. but you get on national television with no clear cut explanation, you babble on and on and you made (in my opinion) the Airline Pilots and the Airport Security situation worst. I will give you credit for bringing it to the forefront of the american media. Then you have the nerve to state that your having "fun" with this situation. Your going to loose alot of support on this one. Have some direction next time you decide to shoot your mouth off.

Does the state he is based in require quantification of radiation in the workplace? Maybe we should all check on this. Does your company give you this data? I work at DAL and I have no clue. I see the MSDS sheets near maintenance facilities but nothing in regards to radiation exposure. I know the cockpit isn't the greatest place to hang out long term without growing an eyeball in your forehead. Is it safe to go through these new machines? I don't think anyone knows the long term affects. Why do we have to be the guinea pigs? Unfortunately this pilot will be thrown under the bus. The higher ups at Homeland Security will just see this as a disgruntled employee. They won't understand that we ALL are pi$$ed off but are mostly professionals that don't pull stunts like this.

Video - Breaking News Videos from CNN.com

Not the whole interview, I guess. They don't get to the part where he supposedly says he is 'having fun'.

[QUOTE=chuck416;887055]"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches

How is the treatment that even our passengers endure daily NOT CLEARLY a violation of our basic constitutional rights?

Well if you keep reading through the Constitution, I believe, #125 " except in an aerodrome"

You're saying that flying is a Right and therefore should be protected by the Constitution? You know what is required of you when you buy and travel on an airline ticket these days...unreasonable?

And if its not in the fine print on an airline ticket (I haven't bought one in 20 years)...it soon will be.

Gotta go now because I think I hear the Tea Party express bus driving to this XJT pilot's house. This guy will have his 15 minutes of fame, I just hope he can articulate his side a little better (that's why i stay home on forums,"they" can't search me here) when he's on the Glenn Beck show.
