Six Days Straight
#45
When I was at Horizon Air it was mostly overnights and day trips. They even had a thing called a standing overnight where you flew a few legs starting at ten PM then hit the hotel between midnight and 4AM and two more leg till done at 10AM. In effect you were off all day long. Great for parents. Bad for sleep.
Daily or semi-daily contact with your family is very important. One of the few benefits of working for a regional was that you spent more continuous time at home with few periods of time where you were gone more than 48 hours. Most of the time 24 to 28 hours away was the max. I personally never had a three day trip at Horizon Air. Now I hear that Horizon Air has gone to all five day trips with only a few days off in between.
Great for a 26 year old commuter from the east coast. Bad for a local family person or anyone who is trying to hold together something that resembles a normal life.
