Took me 4.5 years, but I waited to hold a commutable line in Fat. I just finished upgrade and am happy that I went EMB instead of reserve RJ CAPT.

Any SkyWest fliers living in California? If so, PM me if you wouldn't mind as I have a few questions.

Good question. I'm a new hire and on reserve. Obviously it completely depends on base, equipment, seniority in class, and how many classes are behind you. I chose the base and equipment that supposedly has the shortest reserve (EMB 120/FAT). When I was in class, I heard everything from expect no reserve to expect reserve for at least a few months. Financially, I prepared for a year of reserve.

I still have no idea...

Like WRX said, just depends. I've never sat reserve on any equipment and position at Skyw- but I've been lucky. I'll ask some of my FOs how long it took them to get a line.

I sat reserve for a good 2 1/2 years as an RJ FO in SLC, and would still be on reserve now a year and 3 months later if I was still at skywest. Great company overall but stagnation was killing me, I could not hold a line anywhere in the system after 2 1/2 years. They are becoming what AE was in that regard.

If you live at your base and are on Reserve. Life is not bad. Commuting to reserve at any airline is not fun. I have done it at four airlines in my career. The worst was ORD by far.
