I know it's difficult so I'll keep it simple. UAL and DAL both have too many contract-carriers but staying in-line with UAL's own playbook they need another Q4 operator to us in a whipsaw against their current only Q4 operator. And it doesn’t necessarily have to be another carrier just another Q4 operator.

Huh, I guess I've heard differently. They are still unable to adequately staff on the CRJ and have several new hire classes scheduled, and are still interviewing.

I did hear that they cancelled the upgrade classes, as they are too short on the FO side to lose the FOs right now.

Rumot: significant fall block-hour reduction coupled with Airtran flying ended equals properly staffed for fall... July, August, and September will suck though.

BS

This rumor is false. Only lack of FOs and new hires taking longer to get through training than planned is causing this. We are so short it's not even funny.

I think they're using this to set up the Q400 negotiations. "The sky is falling so if you want to continue to upgrade and hire you’ll have to fly these Q’s for less than standard wages."

Plus, AirTran flying? Please, it was only 5 a/c including a spare and the a/c are under-utilized compared to how we use our other RJ's. At most our AAI flying equates to 20 crews (10 CAs / 10 FOs or .006% of the pilot group). That's a drop in a barrel for SKW.

Nope, they're playing us and as always they're doing a damn fine job of it.

It makes sense, skywest had been hiring for like a year now? With none of the majors hiring one would assume that attrition is low. They probably have hired tons of people and don't need to hire anymore. Delta also cuts like 20% of their flying in the fall and they hate rjs so I bet the regionals are going to get hit hard this year especially with the double dip recession and high oil prices.

Very well thought analysis.

Recent massive flight CANX due to lack of crew leads one to believe that they just can't afford to have a bunch of people offline in the schoolhouse this summer. Also leads one to suspect they still need to hire more as soon as they can.
